speak out, and it's also why, martha, you're seeing a number of companies like walmart, like costco, publix among them saying, we're going to keep this on the honor system. so you're not going to see one of our employees walk up and ask someone to wear a mask. they're just as company is saying, wear a mask if you haven't been vaccinated. if you have been vaccinated and you're within the time frame, you can be welcomed into our stores without one on. >> in terms of vaccinated employees, we heard delta airlines say this week that any new employees would have to be vaccinated. what's the legal question here? can employers say, if you work here, you have to be vaccinated? >> reporter: on the surface, legally, yes. they should be able to do that, but a lot of companies i've talked to behind the scenes are still worried about what legal ramifications there could be if they enforce a vaccine mandate which is why so many are now nudging things along. kroger for example, giving out $100 to its employees who go out and get vaccinated. american airlines giving $50 to their employees as a gift card. so

yes, there's the trader joe's just costco, publix, starbucks, are all dropping their mandatory masking, albertson's. so there's a little bit of confusion there. and if you talk to people, the reaction is kind of mixed. listen. >> i'm a teacher. i have to wear it at work. so i've had it on for the last four hours. it's a bit suffocating, so i'm happy to take it off. >> reporter: what do you think about what trader joe's did? >> you know, i think, you know, if they're following guidelines and we're now able to loosen things up a little bit, why not? >> given that there's a large group of people who don't believe in the vaccine and i think that lifting the mandate is just going to give them free access to not to have to wear a mask, i still have to protect myself. >> reporter: now at trader joe's, pretty much everybody has been masked that we've seen because california still has a mask mandate for indoors. they have not yet embraced the cdc guidelines. so there's a lot of, you know, cross currents here, joshua before we really get this going and everyone gets their masks off. >> scott, on
