as a san franciscan, i see what's happening out on the street. i know that my staff are working very intensely, very hard, many hours to try to get this money out the door. it's really challenging, and i can say having been a department head for a while, it's bureaucratic, and there are a number of steps out there to get a contract out the door. there are a number of steps in changing the system. we have to have a fair process where we have panels and we have proposals, and we have equity at the center, and it's just how our system works. there are just so many things at work and things that we're prioritizing more. these are the things that are going to get us the most items out the door, and we're laser focused on that, but it is a multilayered process, and i don't have any power to change that. >> supervisor safai: okay. thank you for that, director. >> but that said, i have said in many different rooms that i'm happy to work with the community, to hear what people said. we have been spending a lot of time doing that, and i have learned a lot

there are so many different things that the library provides for san franciscans that i feel like a lot't have a library card. i've never been there. they need to come down and check it out and find out what we have. the people who are hiding stuff in their sellers and wondering what to do with these old photos or old junk, whether it is hippie stuff or punk stuff, or stuff from their grandparents, if they bring it here to us, we can preserve it and archive it and make it available to the public in the future. bothc in the future.
