amanda. >>> the rain leading to new flood worries in santa cruz particularly along the san lorenzo river. justin andrews is live with the latest. the rain is still coming down. how is the river looking? >> reporter: you are right. the rain is coming down. that's what meteorologist jessica burch was telling us yesterday and even this morning. she's been mentioning that and showing it on the radar. the rain is coming down, as i mentioned. look at the river. it is relatively low. we were here friday and brush and branches and trees you see, all that was covered with water. this river is one according to residents that will rise relatively quickly and recedes relatively quickly. it appears this morning around 11:00, it should hit the 21.7 peak when it comes to rainfall and water. you can peer through the branches and see the water in the distance. the rain is coming down very heavily this morning. we know this rain can cause traffic issues. it can take out roads. that's really the biggest concern. if i am not mistaken highway 1 is closed in this area. we talked to crews in santa cruz to tell

you have been keeping an eye on the san lorenzo river, which has been forecasted to crest into a major flood stage. how is it looking now? >> reporter: amanda, i think that may have already happened because as we are looking at the san lorenzo river, you can see it has been receding all morning since we have been out here. you can see the trees and the branches and the water. we are seeing more of that because the waters have receded. to give you perspective of how high the waters were, look at this. the water hit about here earlier this morning. that is good news for the people who live in this neighborhood. just how close this water is to the backyards of people's homes, yeah, literally inches and feet away from these people's backyards and that is something they are really concerned about. it is raining and they are keeping a close eye on this rainfall and also the river you see right behind me. people tell us they plan on riding out the storm, at least some of them. they cannot catch a break, including michael herzog, who is still cleaning up from the last warm from january. michae

this right here is the mighty raging san lorenzo river.hen we got here earlier this morning, it had overflowed its banks. it was over 19 ft flood stages. 16.9 and now it's down to about 16 ft . but high tide is at 11 58 this morning so this river will continue to fluctuate. we can tell that in the past several hours we did have some flooding in this neighborhood here, right over here. behind me, is a deck. of a homeowner and you could see that the mud has covered the deck and there's some tossed plants so obviously the river did compromise this homeowner's house and the whole neighborhood is flooded. that is why we had evacuations last night. let's share this video with you. we're police officers and fire department went home to home, knocking on people's doors, waking them up. and telling them they had to get to higher graham. they had to get to know evacuation shelter, and most of the neighbors we can tell, did take that warning. we noticed only a couple of lights on homes here this morning when we drove in. otherwise let's jog about 10

quieter compared to what you'll be encountering as you drive up into the santa cruz mountains, san lorenzo river. you remember flooded during those january storms. we do have that risk of flooding there as well. in addition to some really strong winds in the santa cruz mountains that could be resulting in some loss of power. now for the north bay. we do also have some pockets of heavy rain and solano county, sonoma county on up, especially right now in lake county, that area of heavy rain that you had seen in santa rosa now clearing further north in that direction. flood watches for the entire bay area. not to mention the surrounding region, too. these will continue through tonight. those areas of red that you're seeing up in mendocino county as well as up in the sierra nevada foothills in down along the central coast. these are areas where flooding is already been active. and of course, this excessive rainfall is just going to add to those existing issues. the second problem going on here is the very strong winds, half moon bay, 50 plus mile per hour gust winds intensifying even further on into

you're almost 3 and a half inches of rain and that's why they're seeing some flooding along the san lorenzo river. yeah, bill, you're looking at over an inch and a half. san francisco just under an inch and only a quarter of an inch there in san jose and the rain shadow effect. but still we've got watches up across the bay area through late tonight as love that water still draining down the hills now and it will be racing into many of the creeks and streams to the possibility of more flooding outside again for tonight. seeing some of in the santa cruz mountains. also in parts of the north bay watching out for some more gusty winds, high wind warnings continuing until 11 o'clock tonight. those winds so looking like they're starting to back off. but still the mountain tops are looking at some very strong gusts of 50 and 60 miles per hour. >> all right. lauren sides, hammer fell trees, came crashing down, causing some power lines to spark. take a look.

this includes the san lorenzo river which had a lot of problems back into january. t one, but two different storms, we've got that one coming in, thursday and friday, meeting up with the atmospheric river, the strong subtropical moisture boost that gives the storms a whole new life, a whole new set of characteristics there. and another one, next monday, one month's worth of rain the way we're look at it now, coming in the next seven days. scattered areas of rain, we're going to keep spotty rain as we roll through tomorrow morning and get in on sunshine as we head through the afternoon. let's take it into thursday and you can see by the morning, 6:00 a.m. thursday, there's all of that activity out there, and then that atmospheric river right here, lines up by thursday night into friday for what will be two days of continuous rain through the bay area. rainfall totals, just incredible here. over two days, this is why i'm concerned about flooding. we could be looking at 2 to 3 inches for the entire bay area. we have fine tuning to do through the santa cruz mountains, pe

so this is good here, because notice what we've been worried about, the san lorenzo river has already hit flood stage from previous storms and we are expecting for this to crest above flood stage, right below major flood stage at 11:00 a.m. today, at about 26 feet. this is above the flood stage of 16.5, but as the system clears out it will help it begin to recede heading into the evening. the winds will be the next big concern because the timing right now for some of the gustiest conditions, right around 10:00, so right as the storm comes through, until about 11:00, 12:00. the winds around san francisco, 50 plus miles per hour, river more 43, through san jose, 30 plus as well, and it stays very gusty, ramping up through about 12:00, 1:00. concord, 50 miles per hour, through san francisco as well. so we're not going to see these winds start to taper off, really, until this evening. once that does move out, that's going to make way for still the possibility of downed trees as well. as we inch closer toward wednesday, i have some good news. it looks like because the system is moving out
