you know, shaq was mentioning the pile on that pete buttigieg endured and look how he turned out, not far behind bernie sanders. the former vice president of the united states not only releasing a video essentially dismissing his tenure as mayor of south bend but going so far to suggest to the country it would be a risk to nominate him yet he almost beats bernie sanders in his own back yard. this is the moment the campaign has been waiting for. it's said for months that once they realize pete buttigieg could win, as he essentially did in iowa, nearly did in new hampshire, he was a credible candidate to race. he's headed to nevada this week. he has mainly fund-raising stops there. this is a candidate who is obviously struggled when it comes to polling among communities of color. he has not seen strong poll numbers in nevada or south carolina. this is the moment. the campaign said they needed to prove he can win and prove what's in his heart. this is what the next two weeks will look like. >> craig melvin said it earlier, black and brown voters haven't begun to cast their ballots. an im

shaq, long before you were born, a great man wrote "i know it's late. i know you're weary. i know your plans don't include me." having established that, how frustrated is the sanders campaign, especially as steve kornacki reports they're still finding votes under hay bails in iowa? >> that's exactly right, brian. and there's a growing sense of frustration among the sanders campaign. and that frustration shifted from private conversations that i've had with aides and advisers into the public realm after the iowa democratic party seemingly misallocated some votes earlier this afternoon. they misallocated some votes from senator sanders to some of the candidates that weren't even viable in this race. and the sanders campaign really blasted them on twitter about that, saying because it had the appearance of expanding the lead that mayor pete buttigieg had. that has been corrected. and that was not part of the results that steve showed earlier today. but it goes into the sense of frustration that you're hearing from the sanders campaign. and the reason why this connects to new h

shaq, bernie sanders is the front-runner in this race and now he is getting a lot of the criticism and lot of the spotlight that a front-runner gets and drudging up the past comments and the other campaigns are trying to use it against him. the biden and buttigieg campaign, the bloomberg campaign saying, hey, listen, look at the comments of fidel castro and where he honeymooned. this is how republicans if not the democrats but republicans will go after him in the general election. how's the campaign responding? >> reporter: well, the talk was dismissed as people throwing political barbs and doesn't have a true concern or problem with that issue. they won the first three contests how they look at it. they feel they have hinted of a coalition forming. in nevada he got 51% of latinos. even among moderate voters pating in that democratic caucus, you saw him competing for first place there. they feel good about what they're doing and momentum coming into south carolina. the thing is here in south carolina, this is not a state to invest as much as the early three states. he just put up the f

>> reporter: shaq, the nevada democratic party is trying to do everything they can to prevent the statecoming iowa, 2.0. holding dozens of training sessions around the state, making sure volunteers are read up and in on the caucus process and able to operate the ipad based tool that was developed specifically to help manage the early vote and caucus numbers, merging those together. the big question is about early vote. 77,000 people voted early. only 80,000 caucused four years ago. a lot of campaigns are wondering, will that same day caucus number be huge, and the candidate who hopes it will be huge is elizabeth warren. she's trying to build off momentum from her debate performance the other night in a couple ways. first, she signaled despite previous opposition she will now accept help from super pacs, some super pacs are coming to her aid to spend for her here in nevada and in super tuesday states. she's also continuing to bang on michael bloomberg, ndas attached to women with his companies. sheer she was in a town hall offering advice for the new york city mayor. >> i used to teach c

shaq, good morning to you.hat have iowans told you on the ground there about how they are looking to caucus on monday? >> good morning, alex. yes. it's starting to finally feel like we are about to have these iowa caucuses, especially with many of these candidates who were in washington, d.c. for that impeachment trial. now, back in the state. they're going to be crisscrossing the state trying to talk to as many voters as they can. and in my conversations with voters, you hear that many of them are undecided. just take a listen to a sample of those conversations. >> caucus is in just a couple days. have you made the decision yet? >> no. >> no? when are you going to make a decision? >> i'm going to do some more research this weekend. but i mean, honestly, it will probably come to the day of. i -- there's too many people left and there's too many nuances to their campaigns and what they really want. and i guess i'll have to hear a little bit more and why other people are really pulling for 'em. >> who do you plan

i think as shaq just expressed, i think there's question marks from every campaign over this process. they're all watching it very closely still. their campaign operation in iowa. but there's this conversation over why did tom perez call for the recanvas. we should note and i think steve kornacki has been looking at this and i think will have more this evening in trying to understand on how some of these satellite caucuses were aproportioned. this is complicated math. they're just four state delegates apart from one another. there are some question marks out of allocations out of satellite caucuses where bernie sanders won huge. there's one satellite caucus that we are still awaiting results from and it could be that satellite caucus that has not reported yet that could ultimately put bernie sanders on top. i think that's part of the reason why every campaign is still watching these results come in closely. >> wow, that is interesting there. once again, it's because of all the ridiculous things that the national party and others forced on iowa. now this is why we're here at this point
