the shark.we have seen recently in new york, it does seem unusual. i saw according to the international shark attack file over the last decade in new york, there were just four people bitten by sharks. but over a couple days now, there were five. so what do you think is behind it? >> well, at the root is the fact that when there are sharks together and people together, there can be accidents. and this was a record holiday week. july 4th, a lot of people at the beach. and there were obviously a lot of sharks in the water too. and aggregation, sharks forming groups is common across many species. there's many reasons why they might do that. they could be attracted to food, to each other for mating purposes. they could be gathering in a place that's good for givie iin birth. it's not that surprising that it would happen over a holiday weekend when everyone wants to get in the water. >> you talk about sharks being in the water and food maybe attracting them. some of the experts there, the phrase they

griff: do try, go swim with sharks.h: hey, speaking from one water story to another, there's actually some new concerns over a government study showing that drinking water from nearly half of all u.s. faucets likely contains forever chemicals that may cause cancer and other health problems. so i took a closer look at what researchers found and where. >> you can't see them, but scientists say there may be dangerous chemicals floating in your drinking water. >> this is not good. >> who wants to drink contaminated water? >> in a first of its kind study by the u.s. geological survey, researchers tested tap water from private wells and public systems in more than 700 homes across the country and found nearly half turned up synthetic chemicals called per and polly pfas. according to the study, higher levels of pfas could lead to higher kidney and testicular cancer and even low birth weight in babies. >> what we saw was not surprising and the study gave us information on is kind of hot spots of exposure. >> revealed urban area

a lot of the sharks, the tiger sharks irthey're not that picky. been found with license plates and lawn mowers in their stomachs. they're not really that picky. the problem is not so much the fish but the coral reefs. they are really, really sensitive to climate temperature changes. and as they've found in parts of florida, they have actually put together a whole new reef systems and coral systems by human hand and all of them have been wiped out because of the heat temperature. so if we don't have the coral reefs for the fish, then we won't have any life at all in those areas. that means the collapse of the whole ecosystem and that is what is scary. >> i know, since you're little, they tell you, sharks aren't interested in you. the odds of being hurt are very low. but in new york there were five bites reported in just two days. with the warming temperatures, will we continue to see more human-shark encounters? >> that's what they always told me as well, especially then. look how that turned out. sometimes wrong place, wrong time. the sharks are,
