dozens of firefighters are battling a fire along san jose state university's fraternity row. we have the latest from the scene. >> reporter: good morning, frank. well, we know right now one firefighter has been taken to the hospital with burns to his hand. take a look behind me. the four-alarm fire burning at san jose state, this is the kappa sigma house on 11th street. apparently the fire broke out at 3:20 a.m. and it may have started in the laundry room. they don't know exactly what floor. the fire quickly spread to the attic. crews tried to go up there to fight the fire. but because of the intense heat, there was a threat this is roof might collapse so they backed down and now you can see them using the ladders and fire hoses instead of firefighters going up on top. one firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor burns to his hands. we know that it started out as a three-alarm fire, quickly spread to four alarms. it should be out in 10 or 15 minutes. there are no reports of injuries to any of the people in the house. school is out so apparently the students that were

this is the kappa sigma fraternity near the san jose state university campus. and you can see that there are no longer these big orange flames shooting from the roof of the building. there are three area ladders pointing their water hoses directly onto the building. we saw a little bit of smoke a short time ago. let's show you what it looks like live right now from overhead in news chopper 2. there is a lot of damage to this building, but you can see the flames for the most part seem to have been put out, and at this point they're kind of shooting water on some of those hot spots and making sure nothing flares up again. now, there were 75 firefighters working this fire at one point. san jose fire department had to call for mutual aid from santa clarita because this -- santaclara, you can see from the pictures about an hour ago, at one point it was a four-alarm fire. there were no reports of injuries among any of the people living in the fraternity. there were about 28 fraternity brothers living inside this house when the fire started at 3:00. all of them got ou

my main job has been doing social work for san francisco state university. i have been a community organizer, a social worker, but i have also been a legislative aide. i worked mostly for community- based organization supporting kids and families, working for labor. i got to see how city hall could be an effective tool to create change. i looked at running in 2007, 2008, and somehow i made it. i have been in politics for so many ways, doing work around central america, supporting people in central america against u.s. imperialism, their right to live, self determination. i did a lot of work on that on campus when i was in college. a bit of work on apartheid when i was in college as well. >> i never got involved in supporting a candidate. i never thought a candidate was someone that i would support. then when tom ammiano ran against willie brown, i got inspired. i thought, someone with integrity and honesty, if they can run for mayor, maybe i can be somebody who represents what is true about our people. that is what inspired me to run and be a candidate. one
