tom kierein tracking your "storm team 4" weather. hey, tom. >> what a storm, incredible. everything has been transformed by that blustery strong wind and the heavy snow we had yesterday. here is the scene now at union station. it is all snow covered there, and many of the side streets have not been touched. many of the main arteries have been plowed. our tower camera looking down at the entrance of nbc 4. you can see it has been plowed, but all the side streets for the most part have not been touched yet. here's the last of the storm. it has exited new england. cape cod here. new york city got hammered, about 26 inches there. our temperatures now are very cold. we're in the 20s around the bay. around the me tree area, hovering around the 20s. northern western suburbs in the teens. look at luray, only 9 there. just in the teens in the shenandoah valley where they got a lot of snow. shepherdstown, over 4 inches of snow. 17.8 at reagan national. there's controversy on whether it's the storm total. 35 inches north and west of washington. southern suburbs ended up with 2 feet

"storm team 4" meteorologist tom kierein has more. d morning, tom. >> we've had dramatic drop overnight. now, sunrise was about five minutes ago. we're not seeing it, though, because we've got a lot of clouds around. there's a live view, cotton ball clouds over the capitol. it's all overcast this morning. temperatures under the clouds are in the mid-30s in the metro area. nearby suburbs in the 30s. around the bay, upper 30s. farther to our south, a few locations are at or above freezing. manassas, warrenton, and luray, and up in the mountains of west virginia. the drawer picking up some aloft here this sort of circular gray zone where it's trying to reach the ground. but farther south, south of richmond and up south of fredericksburg is where it is now beginning to reach the ground. but these are just lead t leading edge of some flurries that will be moving into the metro area by 9:00 this morning but most of it melting as it's going to be landing on pavement above freezing and temperatures above freezing as well. a look at the hour-by

tom kierein now, the snow has picked up in parts of the d.c. metro area. what are you seeing in northwest? >> reporter: i don't think it's ever abated. since i've been here at predawn, 5:00 a.m., it's been snowing at the same rate. what's changed is the wind. the wind is beginning to whip here. in fact, the flag is snapping and flapping in a very stiff wind here. the circle in front of the nbc 4 entrance. the wind is blowing strong enough that we are getting gusts of wind that are causing drifting. snowplow drivers are clearing the parking lot constantly because of the wind, keeps drifting over repeatedly. look at the snowfall totals. as much as 20 to 22 inches. panhandle to near harper's ferry, around frederick and montgomery county and to loudoun county, 18, 19-inch reports coming in as well as fairfax county. frederick and points south as you showed on the radar where they've only had -- i say only, eight, nine, ten inch, they'll add on to that maybe as that fills in now with more snow coming down. southern maryland, as well. more snow on the way there.
