[applause] >> i hope you're enjoying your stay here at the heritage foundation. well, two years ago john fund and i -- is our national affairs correspondent where i'm also a country but. we wrote a book on election integrity in voter fraud. in june we came out with a second book called "obama's enforcer: eric holder's justice department." and it's basically about how eric holder has run the justice department for the past almost six years. and i can tell you that it's something that ought to concern every american. i'm going to talk about some things at the 30,000-foot level but talk about why you should be concerned about this. the justice department is probably the most powerful executive branch agencies on the domestic side that we have. the prosecutors who work there can break, bankrupt, and put in prison any american. and if they have the willingness to abuse the law, they can do a lot of harm. that's exactly what's been going on now for a number of years. i used to work at the j

von spakovsky is correct in that.hat we with are saying is that one of the most key provisions of that act that ensured that voters were protected before the fact, before voting changes went into effect that would discriminate against them, that has been invalidated. when you talk about section 2, as mr. von spakovsky said, yes, we have section 2 of the voting rights act. the problem with section 2 is two-fold. section 2 cases are extremely expensive and time-consuming to litigate. most individuals do not have access to those kinds of dollars and economic power and to lawyers to enable them to litigate those cases. but, number 2, section 2 is a provision of the voting rights act that one does not get to invoke until after the damage has been done, unlike under section 5 where a voting change had to come before the department of justice before it went into place. under section 2, you don't challenge a law until it has already gone into effect. and we all know that with respect to voting, you don't get a do-over. he ele

a chicago memorial for sheila von wiese-mack is planned for next month. police now say a teenager was trying to steal construction materials when he was crushed to death by a concrete slab at a building company in alsip. the 16-year-old boy was killed early yesterday when he got pinned between two walls at "the lombard company". police say he and two other teens had just removed the steel rods that were holding the concrete walls up. the boy died on the scene. the two 15-year-olds who were with him were charged with criminal trespass, and released to their parents. a babysitter narrowly escaped death at a north side park yesterday. a large tree limb fell on her while she was watching three children at touhy park. the 24-year old woman suffered a broken leg, and a number of scrapes, cuts and bruises. police officers pulled her out from under the limb. she was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but with non life-threatening injuries. the children were not hurt. northfield police are trying to determine what caused an elderly woman to drive her car
