how about kent island. it was kind of gray, kind of hazy, not as sunny as the weekend.torms have been generally tracking south of us. they will continue to be to the south at least through wednesday. better storms coming wednesday afternoon and as we go into friday. more on that in one sect -- second. most spots running in the upper 80s. that northwest wind trying to edge in some slightly drier air. you see it on our moisture map the dew points below 60 in hagerstown, and now 56 in york. the dew point is up around 70 where we have the stickier conditions. that makes the heat indices feel hotter. we think this will be the same scenario tomorrow, general rally a rain free tuesday. into wednesday we this this boundary could shift further north. that could bring the storm chances back by wednesday afternoon. for now this frontal boundary is just south of us, not far enough south to really let the dry air get in here but far enough south to push the storms which generally form ahead of the front by 50 to 100 miles. so it's a rainy day in virginia beach and roanoke but not so

as we go further east, kent island, we have not seen much sun. so it depends on where you are in terms of how much sunshine you'll be seeing. just about none of us has seen anything in terms of rain but muggy with temperatures pushing 90. as you go much further west there is some cool are relief toward oakland. the bay water temps are in the mid-80s. heat index values, mid-90s, what it feels like this afternoon. i think we're going to be right back here tomorrow, kind of a car been copy with the muggies hanging out. the active weather has been from the virginia state line into the carolinas, some showers offshore, but most of us and most of the area has been dry even for the white marlins. most of the active stuff has been into charleston and atlanta. the area of low pressure causing that. there is some sleetly drier -- slightly drier air to the north. you can see the boundary. it is a surface boundary separating the drier air north of us and the more humid conditions. north of the pattern we have hotter numbers because the air is drier and the s

we have 82 out in hagerstown. 79 in bel air and everyone else reporting 80s. 85 in annapolis and kent island. the southerly component, bringing in the high air in control of the forecast for the last few days. the high started around the great lakes and has been continuing to slip off the coast of the mid-atlantic. the high that allows for that warm air to move on in, the high moves out and that low comes in from the south and southeast. that's what we're dealing with now. the storm system in chicago, the lollapalooza concert that kind of delayed as a result, this is the same front that moves our direction starting now that's starting to make the push, but by tomorrow afternoon, it will be here. the same type of storm could be headed our way by tomorrow afternoon, but in the meantime, the hot and humid temperatures stay in place with less humid conditions behind it. this front will be the transition. downpours that could be strong with a tornado threat, that will be posted but then a nice start to the week. this is ernesto. expected to strengthen to a category 1 hurricane by the middle of ne

on the edge of the water temperatures are cooler, 84 kent island and annapolis.inds coming in from the east and a bit of a flow from the south. again, this wind is going to shift to the south and southwest over the next day or so curtesy of high pressure that's building in from our northwest. that high pressure starting the sink now that the low pressure system that's been offshore kind of locking things up is lifting away and up to the northeast. it's clearing out the way for that high to start sinking down into our region. it's going to allow for hot and humid air to move into the region. that's whether we have to look forward to -- that's what we have to look forward to for this beak -- this weekend. maybe a slight chance for widely showers mostly east into the weekend. nothing that's going to wash out plans. tropical depression number 5, which could turn into ernesto is moving in. 35 mile an hour wind speed. it's moving to the west at 20 miles an hour. it is going to be a while before it's close enough to take any real note of its impact on any u.s. interest.

and 86 there in annapolis and kent island. and rock hall as well. right now, very light winds in the region. but generally, looking at a north flow of dryer air that came in with this front that gave us the thunderstorms yesterday. some folks got decent rain. a few spots picked up over half an inch. officially at the airport, they had a trace of rain. north of the city, about a quarter to half inch. a few spots had three quarters. wheaton picked up almost an inch of rain, as did elkton yesterday in those thunderstorms. that front really kind of wimped out. but did bring us wind gusts. it's now kind of dying across portions of southern virginia. still have thunderstorms down there. very humid and hot down here. dryer air. and that's sort of the boundary line in through there. so we head into the dryer air tomorrow. as we said, a nice, nice day. by wednesday and thursday, that same warm, moist air is probably going to come back across the region. so we'll warm up again. and the humidity will come back again. and the risk of some afternoon shower or th

and 77 in westminster. 78 in bel air. 79 in rock hall. 83 down around kent island and annapolis, temperatures reflecting a bit of a very mild water temperature. the water temperatures in the bay around 82 degrees. now, this west/southwesterly flow is around high pressure that had marched right on across the mid atlantic. it is now offshore and it is bringing in the clockwise flow, it brings in the west/southwesterly wind. and it is a little bit stronger down towards the dc suburbs on the lower eastern shore, eastham and patuxent river with double digit winds out there right now. as the high continues to move away and continues to pump in the warm humid air, our atmosphere will get kind of juiced up. the humidity is really the fuel that these storms need. now with a front approaching from the west, that clash of air mass, that cool air, and less humid air, is going to come crashing in to the humidity, and the heat that is in place. what that will mean for us is we will see a transition. a transition means that the storms that are associated with this front would be very, very strong. and that
