good air quality thankfully in the bay area once again for today, good in green, north bay, east bayd south bay with moderate air quality for the coast. westerly winds push tag smoke to the east and away from us. as we look to the end of our weekend and early next weekend we could see a change in our winds, winds taking more of an easterly to southerly direction and that can mean we can see smoke drift into the bay area as we look to sunday and monday and tuesday. this is our smoke concentration forecast model here bringing smoke into the region. we are going to be watching that very closely. it's a while away and we have our eyes on it. let's check our daytime highs, mid 70s in san mateo. 77 santa clara, 78 in san jose this afternoon with that sunshine. inland east bacon cord 89, 91 antioch and brentwood, low to mid 80s for the tri valley this afternoon. around the bay with clearing and sunshine, 63 san francisco, 68 oakland and san leandro. north bay mid 70s to mid 80s and topping out at 94 for ukiah. san francisco and oakland, around the bay, temperatures holding steady over the n

central bay.>>> if a fire breaks out in the oakland hills, you might encounter a delay. >> fire house 25 is closed because of a broken hot water heater. firefighters are now two miles away. justin andrews is live. this is pretty terrible timing. >> reporter: it is with the high fire danger across the bay. this oakland fire station is closed. firefighters are nearly two miles away at another station. the spokesperson says this is very frustrating and concerning. at this point, it's a health and safety issue, he says, because firefighters can't wash off carcinogens from fires. this presents slow response times. that broken hot water heater was supposed to be fixed friday when a public works plumber came by. apparently when he left the water heater stopped working again. >> because of deferred maintenance this fire station is uninhabitable. we have had problems with the water heater which is the most pressing problem now. but we have also had a lot of problems with heat. over 100 degrees last summer.

inland east bay is top line. north bay valleys are middle line. can see how you will cool to the lower 80s. how does the drive look? >>> we've got brake lights as we work west bound. a live look at the dublin interchange, extra volume towards the 580, 680 connector. east of there is where we are seeing the bulk of the stop and go conditions for the morning ride. as we look at our maps, extra volume and slow speeds west bound out of tracy into the altamont pass area. travel time, 39 minutes 205 towards 680. the ride towards the dublin interchange is a busy one. chp working on a trouble spot. it's in the clearing stages so that's good news. activity and brake lights north bound 101, not far from hills dale. they have the right lane blocked but it looks like they're getting everything to the shoulder. if you want to skip the brake lights use 280 or el camino as an alternate. things are looking better in the area. we are starting to see traffic build for the ride out of gilroy. a heads up if you are headed into the south bay. once you pass that look a

nbc bay area's kris sanchez joins us now with what that all means for us in the bay area. >> reporter: you don't have to wear a mask if you are fully vaccinated but you might want to. right now 83% of u.s. cases are of the delta variant. a big spike from 50% of all cases the week of july 3rd. in california nearly half of all new cases are now of the delta variant, which experts say is highly contagious. for that reason, 17 california counties are now recommending that even fully vaccinated people wear masks when we are inside public places. that far includes all bay area counties except for solano. right now only los angeles county is mandating a return to masks indoors. the bay area would be solidly in the red and most restrictive purple tiers based on new case numbers and hospitalizations. the cdc continues to urge people to get vaccinated as all of the authorized vaccines do provide protection against the delta variant and because most covid cases are among people who are unvaccinated. >> right now concerns are growing about breakthrough cases of covid-19. an aid to house speaker n

the north bay, east bay, south bay and santa clara valley seeing moderate air quality. that you want to limit your time outside. we are going to be limiting our time outside anyway because of the heat, as the high hits 93 in morgan hill, and 80s in san jose. 101 in antioch. while we keep the milder weather for the inner bay, oakland reaching upper 70s. coastal areas staying in the 60s, and mostly 60s in san francisco and then the mission district and downtown will reach up to the low 70s. our north bay temperatures, hot. ukiah reaching 104 while novato will see a high of 90 degrees. this heat intensifies over the next few days, peaking on saturday in spots like brentwood that could get as hot as 111 degrees, and it will last several days and continue through the weekend and start to ease off early next week with relief coming our way. >>> mike, how does the morning commute look? >> i talked about the san jose commute, and as we talk about this volume generally starting to build on 101, and now we see 87. that has happened over the last month. we have consistently seen s

clouds over the north bay, little bit there for the east bay and the south bay.lock up here. once we hit about 10:30 in the morning, most of us are going to clear out from any kind of cloud cover except for the beaches. we'll still hang on to some of that fog so a hotter and sunnier day coming our way. you'll feel it as we move through tomorrow morning. not quite as cool to start. we have lots of 60s returning from the south bay to the peninsula. trivalley up to 64 degrees. san francisco with that foggy breeze will be one of the chilliest spots beginning at 54. daytime highs tomorrow, though, on a huge climb with that hot area of high pressure i talked about, we're looking at a solid 10 to 20-degree warm-up so down in the south bay, this will put you back to 90 in los gatos and really start to feel that heat at morgan hill. 83 in vallejo, walnut creek 95 and right near the bay, perfect weather in oakland at 76. right through the peninsula, 64 in half moon bay, then head to palo alto at 82 so you can see the trend with that cooler ocean breeze remaining. we still

bay. it's all the region and our reservoirs continue to deplete as we've seen extremely low reservoir levels across the bay area especially in the south bay. take a look at some of these numbers where we are seeing some of the water sources that we have here locally now only at about 24% of the capacity for our historical average. we're seeing this across the state as these water levels drop very rapidly and we're going to be dealing with some hot temperatures which we know increases our fire danger and there's not going to be much water to get to try to put out those fires. that's going to be a really high concern especially as we go deeper into our fire season. that's something we're watching and we'll talk about those temperatures in a few minutes. marcus and sierra. >> thanks. >>> we want to bring in kris sanchez live in santa clara where there's already drought restrictions under way and also another -- coming for another county. >> there is more coming for another county, but we know
