good air quality thankfully in the bay area once again for today, good in green, north bay, east bayd south bay with moderate air quality for the coast. westerly winds push tag smoke to the east and away from us. as we look to the end of our weekend and early next weekend we could see a change in our winds, winds taking more of an easterly to southerly direction and that can mean we can see smoke drift into the bay area as we look to sunday and monday and tuesday. this is our smoke concentration forecast model here bringing smoke into the region. we are going to be watching that very closely. it's a while away and we have our eyes on it. let's check our daytime highs, mid 70s in san mateo. 77 santa clara, 78 in san jose this afternoon with that sunshine. inland east bacon cord 89, 91 antioch and brentwood, low to mid 80s for the tri valley this afternoon. around the bay with clearing and sunshine, 63 san francisco, 68 oakland and san leandro. north bay mid 70s to mid 80s and topping out at 94 for ukiah. san francisco and oakland, around the bay, temperatures holding steady over the n

nbc bay area's kris sanchez joins us now with what that all means for us in the bay area. >> reporter: you don't have to wear a mask if you are fully vaccinated but you might want to. right now 83% of u.s. cases are of the delta variant. a big spike from 50% of all cases the week of july 3rd. in california nearly half of all new cases are now of the delta variant, which experts say is highly contagious. for that reason, 17 california counties are now recommending that even fully vaccinated people wear masks when we are inside public places. that far includes all bay area counties except for solano. right now only los angeles county is mandating a return to masks indoors. the bay area would be solidly in the red and most restrictive purple tiers based on new case numbers and hospitalizations. the cdc continues to urge people to get vaccinated as all of the authorized vaccines do provide protection against the delta variant and because most covid cases are among people who are unvaccinated. >> right now concerns are growing about breakthrough cases of covid-19. an aid to house speaker n
