the chp shut down both lanes of highway 1 caltrans moved in some heavy equipment. and they have been work on the cleanup all night long. this is one of many roadways at risk of mud slides this morning. >> oh you have to look at the composition of soil and then it's been saturated with heavy rains so it's just more increased likelihood of slipage. >> reporter: and between now and wednesday pacifica is expecting another inch and half of rain and according to roberta in mayof last year pacifica saw 5 inches of rain and geologists sent out the warning the potential for landslides was at a risky level. we could see the same thing happen here over the next couple days. and unfortunately, there are not a lot of ways around this area if you are trying to get to the north from pacifica. so, some people have been trying to go back to half-moon bay take 92 to 280. but that is obviously a real bear as well. so if you can avoid this area, pacifica, rain and -- raina del mar do it. >>> another mudslide to tell you about this time in the sierra. crews worked overnight to dig out

the chp made good progress or caltrans crews made good progress overnight. look at what they were dealing with. look at the video of the trees that came down during that wild storm that we had. this happened at highway 160 last night. they announced about 9:00 last night that these trees were done and weren't going to be able to get cleared until this morning because they were nervous about the safety of their crews. they were worried that more trees would fall on the people who were trying to do the work. so they shut it down and said we've got to deal with this later. well, overnight, the weather calmed down, and they got it done so they were able to reopen at 1:15 this morning so you're going to have a normal commute through here. >>> marin county is dealing with several trouble spots this morning after pounding rain. a chunk of the hillside gave away along oakland avenue in san anselmo. crews worked late into the night last night to clean it up. residents fear it could be a sign of brigger problems to come. >> it's going to be raining for five more days.

chp is diverting it off. so we are seeing some delays in the area so take your time out there and give your sea of couple extra minutes. moving over to the bay bridge toll plazzate metering lights are on downtown takes 23 minutes so that's a pretty slow commute and the roadways are very wet so keep both hands on the wheel and take it slow across the span into downtown san francisco. all right we have got a traffic alert in oakland southbound 13 before broadway terrorist a pothole causing trouble 5 cars have been damaged from the potholes so chp and crews are out there trying to clean this up for you but otherwise it's going take a while because it's traffic alert 30 minutes or more so to avoid the pothole get on southbound 13 after broadway and get moraga or take 234 24á to 5 -- 24 to 580 giving you a couple extra minutes but it's best to avoid the area altogether because the potholes can be very damaging for your car and your morning commute. moving over to the altamont pass coming off 205 inching at 12 mile

and chp named the other one. but that's okay.let's go ahead and start with the san leandro area. westbound 580 connector to northbound 238 a stalled car causing delays but otherwise looking good in the area. so that's good news here but if you are taking 880 to the san mateo bridge that's slow between hayward and foster city. 880 to 101 will take you about 25 minutes or so. moving over now to the major hot spot, miserable commute of the morning, all morning long, since yesterday there's a pothole out there. it's now repaired. which is the good news within the 6 a.m. hour but this residual backup is still here and you're moving at just 5 miles per hour along the way. once you hit north flynn road where the pothole was to about 25 miles per hour so expect about over 2.5 hours if you are heading to the altamont pass. you want to avoid it which i do suggest, go ahead and take patterson pass road instead or just wait it out if you can. okay. moving over now to the south bay how's it looking out there? 101 northbound is the only slowdo

chp is hoping to have those lanes reopened around 6:00 a.m. now, these potholes are getting so big, they're actually getting their own name. the chp named this sinkhole on highway 13 in oakland, steve. the rain affects the road in two ways, from the surface, where tires squeeze water into the asphalt, causing it to crack and break open and below where rain water loosens the soil underneath. caltrans says it's deplaying its crews as fast as it can but they're struggling to keep up. in the end, drivers pay the price. >> they need to fix it fast because i damaged the rim, i damaged the front of my car and i had to get that fixed, the back of my car, the bumper got blown out. yeah. >> this has been one of the worst seasons for potholes and other roadway damage we've seen in a long time. we haven't received this much rain this quickly. >> reporter: all right. caltrans says the repairs they're doing now are temporary. they need to wait for warmer weather before doing a more permanent fix and you can make it damage claim with caltrans if your car is

it won't be open any time soon according to chp. now let's go back to the desk. >>> now to a developing story in fremont that sal you were just talking about. a portion of interstate 880 is closed at this hour because of a truck crash that may have spilled hazardous material on to the road. we have the the update from the scene. >> reporter: pam as sal said northbound 880. the mission boulevard off ramp is closed right now. that is because there has been a chemical spill here. we just heard from chp. they are saying is going to he about closed for another two hours. this was caused by a drunk driver according to chp who was driving that truck there you that see in the distance. a hazmat crew has just arrived. they are assessing the situation and will gyp their clean up process. at around one this morning that truck slammed in to the sand barrel set up at the off ramp. debris scattered all over that portion of the freeway. there were chemicals that spilled including possibly chlorine and acidt. appear this is was a truck halling pool

the chp says it's working to open up the two right lanes. and now let's move to the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city. a slow commute because it's very wet out there. you can see the rain coming down pretty hard so from 880 to 101, that will take you about 15 minutes. but i say tackle on a couple of extra minutes because of slowdowns. in the south bay we have a look in the scotts valley santa cruz mountains area. highway 17 between vine hill road and sugarloaf road is reduced to one lane. normally it's two lanes. that's because of a mud slide they are still cleaning up. >>> we are keeping a watchful eye on a couple of different situations, the napa river in napa is going to overflow its banks tomorrow morning. when that happens, you definitely have some crop losses and some erosion near the river. meanwhile, in guerneville, same situation a watchful eye on this as we see it's already overflowed its banks once and it will do it again to. live hi-def doppler showing heavy precipitation in the bay area. when you see yellow that's mod
