christie smith is live in oakland with how things are shaping up. doesn't look like it's raining now. >> reporter: no, thank goodness. except for the wet streets, there few signs of how bad it was. the street lites are out along broadway. this had a big impact on oakland and the east bay for hours at the bart station t. took six hours for the power to come back on. the bart station was affected too. the train was unable to stop at those stations. they had to operate on a generator for a time and the oakland police department host power for hours as the street was dark. many signals were not working. pg&e saying about 15,000 customers lost power. the last word we had this morning, everyone has been restored and all power back on. pg&e blamed equipment failure on the wind and the rain. >> i never had an experience like this before. never. especially with the whole city just about going out. >> in the north bay, it was up to 55 miles an hour. an oak tree crashed on to a home and no one was hurt. the rain came as quite a blow to grape growers in wine co

reporting live in union city, christie smith, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, christie. the national transportation safety board's report on the deadly san bruno blast is out. the fire killed eight people and destroyed 37 homes. without identifying a cause, the report said just before the blast an equipment failure at the pg&e terminal caused an increase in pressure. also the ntsb reported they didn't send dispatch workers to cutoff the flow until 34 minutes after the explosion. a part of the gas pipeline that exploded runs through san francisco. they invited pg&e representatives to address their concerns. >> it's very personal for us. >> the portion of the pipeline that runs through south san francisco is scheduled to be replaced in 2013. >> a seventh grader is picketing outside of his middle school. marco goes to school in fresno and said it's hard to concentrate when classmates are mean to him. he said most kids never speak up and he wants to give them a voice by taking to the streets. >> i want everyone to know and the community to know this is serious. it could happ

christie smith is live with a look at what's ahead. good morning, christie. >> good morning. there is good information here. this brings together doctors and state policy makers, trying to get people to maximize the resources that are already out there and already available to you. it's surprising. nearly six million people who have diabetes go undiagnosed each year and some apparently don't realize they have diabetes until they get one of the complications including heart disease, stroke, or blindness. it's a disease where blood glucose levels are above normal. this is put on by the california legislative black caucus at the naacp conference here in oakland today. it's aimed at communities of color. they are disproportionately affected by diabetes. the american diabetes association said one in four african-american women over 55 has diabetes and nearly 15% of african-american adults have it too. today this is wellness and good management and reducing your risk and connecting you to the resources. if you want information, it's at the marriott and starts at 10:00 this morning.
