nbc political director and "meet the press" moderator chuck todd is here on a very busy day watching the coverage, so much of it comes down to what was bob mueller's intention? what's your take? >> well, first of all, let's unpack. the president is out there screaming no obstruction, no collusion. that's not what the report says. the report says it was attempted obstruction and there was an attempted conspiracy. s muellernt a whole couple of pages defining collusion is not in the law and conntiracy. it's iesting they decided to explain that to the reader about why they don't necessarily use collision, they use conspiracy. he lays out all sorts of attempts and even makes it clear this is where bill barr has presideput himself into a real partisan fight. basically mueller is saying it's up to congrs to decide the obstruction question. it's pretty clear that the parameters they were operating under, that the u.s. isn't necessarily lfking to see i they can do it themselves. they also left it open if possible the president could be charged once he leaves office. i do think this report cer

i am steve kornacki in for chuck todd. welcome to "mtp daily." welcome to a big hour of breaking news. right now, democrats are discussing as we speak whether to move forward with impeaching the president. nancy pelosi is holding a conference call with her caucus, charged with determining their next move. this is the first time house democrats have gathered together since the redacted mueller report was released last week. right now it is a party divided. a number of house democrats and one hopeful call for impeachment proceedings to begin immediately. others want to hear from witnesses like attorney general barr and robert mueller himself before going further. jerry nadler, chairman of the judiciary committee which would conduct any impeachment proceeding told chuck yesterday he is not ruling out impeachment. meanwhile, speaker pelosi is pumping the brakes. sent a letter to her caucus before tonight's call, cautioning against impeachment. it is a risky move either way for democrats when you look at the politics of it. go down the impeachment roa

good evening, i'm chuck todd here in washington. welcome to "meet the press daily." the president this afternoon said he is strongly considering a plan to send detained immigrants to sanctuary cities seemingly as a way to retaliate against his political enemies. it's a plan that is potentially illegal, or as someone said, so illegal. nbc news ha learns learned the administration is considering running detention camps. the president told the acting dhs chief that he would get a pardon if he ran into legal troubles if he closed the border. they weren't sure if the president was joking or not. these are remarkable developments that raise questions about abuses of presidential power. a former official at the department of homeland security told nbc news they scrapped the sanctuary city idea after it was determined to be, quote, so illegal. officials at the white house and dhs initially insisted it wasn't being taken seriously. but then the president spoke at the white house. >> we'll bring the illegal -- or the illegals. i call them the illegals. they came across the bor

i'm chuck todd in washington. we'll get to the escalating fallout from bernie sanders combative town hall on fox, which is grabbed the attention of everyone from the president to pete buttigieg. it's not every day you hear a "fox news" audience cheer medicare for all and we'll also head to iowa but we begin tonight with the president reviving two of the most incendiary elements of his 2016 campaign, his focus on immigrants and muslims. he's doubling down his attack on congresswoman ilhan omar as he's ramping up his border rhetoric. it seems to be a strategy to distract, perhaps, from the special counsel's upcoming report which is expected to be released on thursday. i say it seems to be because, let's face it, mr. trump focused on immigrants and muslims during the 2016 campaign before there was such a thing as a mueller report and he'll probably be focusing on those two issues in the 2020 campaign well after we have digested what remnants of the mueller report we see. the president obviously wants to talk about a

this is "meet the press" with chuck todd. >> good sunday morning. we're going to get to the mueller report in a moment, but there was a terrible series of terror attacks in sri lanka on this easter morning. the attacks targeted worshippers in churches and high end hotels frequented by foreign tourists. the death toll is going to number into the hundreds. the attacks broke a period of peace in sri lanka that endured a civil war that came to an end. >> the mueller report. there was a tale of two reports or two tales of one report with a divided public free to choose its version of the truth. on one hand was the president and his supporters, who framed the report as exoneration of the president. on the other hand was the report itself have had 448 pages including many redactions is a far cry from no collusion. a president who later worked furiously to obstruct the investigation. in fact, mr. trump may have been saved if are awe formal obstruction charge by aides who saved him from himself. the mueller team writes the president's efforts to influence th
