how do you respond to what donald trump said to chuck todd that if democrats had done x, we would notroblem at all. >> it is a great dodge and great deflection in the election season. we know for a long time there is conditions in south and central america that led to an influx of people at the border. we know that and can all agree on that. you can deflect and blame democrats for it or you can say immigration is a complicated subject. this whole and even the tweet about i am giving democrats two weeks the fix this, puts democrats on the -- they're not going to solve our immigration crisis between now and the first or second week of july. ultimately, i do think this enforcement action we are talking about is going to happen in some form if it truly is a question of if we don't get new laws passed by july 10th or whatever the date is. >> there are two different narratives of these raids, one they were not in the position going out, he talked about getting millions of people but they were not in the position to take these 2,000 people. we heard remarkable stories of the conditions peopl

chuck todd is nbc's political director and moderator of "meet the press." chuck, we heard about the cyber attack. and yet the president called back on the military. what is the end game here? what is the u.s. strategy for really moving forward? >> well, there isn't a u.s. strategy. i think there is a trump strategy, and there is a separate trump administration strategy. and i don't think the two are always -- the two are not always in sync. sometimes they are in conflict. in the interview i had with the president, it's pretty clear to me what he wants. he wants direct talks and to make his own deal with iran. he was political of the president's deal. he wants to have his own deal. he set some parameters of what he wants. i think he sees himself as this grand deal maker, and that's what he wants to do. very similar to kim jong-un. but there isn't this singular figure that he can create a personal relationship with that he has done with kim jong-un. that is why he can't get there. what i can't figure out is if his goal is talks, why have such hawkish advisers

now to chuck todd, nbc's political director and moderator of "meet the press." good morning.e had singapore. we had hanoi. now a meeting at the dmz which, by the way, which was t moren the handshake. there were 50 minutes of talks behind closed doors. is there a plan from the trump administration or was it a photo op? >> we will find out. king ast two ended up l if they were photo ops in the end. we thought they could lead to didn't.g, but they the first one having the summit gave the president a boost that he had neverotten before. the highest job approval rating we ever record for the president came after that first meeting with kim jong un. and i think in some ways,th williepresident keeps o recapture that moment, recapture, you know, with some other replacementhiny moment. after their second meeting north korea apparently, kim jong un ecuted the negotiating team there. so it's hard to anticipat ything more than this being a photo op that leads to more talks that may not lead to anything. so at some point the president needs progress. he hasn't gotten any yet. >> usually t

good evening, i'm steve kornacki in new york in for chuck todd. a congressional aid who was in a meeting between nancy pelosi and a group of congressional investigators has confirmed to nbc news she told hem, i don't want to see president trump impeached. i want to see him in prison. those comments were first reported by politico. which is also reporting that pelosi made those comments as house judiciary committee chairman jerry nadler, was pressing her to allow him to launch an impeachment inquiry. nbc news has not confirmed nadler's confirmed support for impeachment inquiry. this all comes as house democrats reaffirm the authority of house committee chairs to quickly go to court to enforce their subpoenas. meanwhile, the pressure on pelosi's caucus continues to grow as the administration stonewalls. that pressure could ratchet up even more at this hour. the attorney general and commerce secretary are facing contempt votes unless they comply with a set of subpoenas by the close of business today. in just a moment, i'm going to speak with a member
