our pat collins is outside that hotel right now on thomas circle with more on this. pat? >> reporter: jim, this could be a most important clue. now, that picture was taken outside the donovan hotel -- moments ago, police put out this picture of the so-called person of interest in the donovan hotel murder case. it appears it was taken by a hotel security camera in the lobby. police are looking to talk to this person. the victim 30-year-old david messerschmitt messerschmitt, lives with his wife in a condo on capitol hill. he worked for a powerhouse law firm with washington offices in chinatown. he was found stabbed to death tuesday morning in a room at the donovan hotel on thomas circle. so why was he here? who was he with? police want to know. they've been working this case nonstop. police chief kathy lanier says the day before messerschmitt's body was found he was reported missing. >> we know that the victim in that case had been reported missing by family. i believe it was about 24 hours before. >> reporter: today a spokesman for the messerschmitt family delivered this m

i know that senator collins has already introduced you. we'd love to hear your opening comments. >> thank you, senator. my sincere check to chair collins, ranking member mccaskill and other ranking members of the committee. i'm a prosecutor with king county prosecutor's office in seattle, washington. fourteen years ago i was aappointeded to be my office's first elder abuse prosecutor. since then with the exception of a two-year hiatus i have been prosecuting case of elder financial exploitation, neglect physical assault sexual assault and homicide. a recent case that i handled involved an esteemed community member of kent washington a town just south of seattle. kenneth sharp was a rotarian, businessman and running for city council. his mother, helen was in her 80s and had dementia but she was in good shape financially. she owned her home free and clear and had plenty of money to handle needs for her life. her son was her attorney and handle her finances. in 2008 ken sharp started to steal from her first making transfers from her account t

collin levy joins us. why the strategy right off the bat of taking on public unions? that's so important? >> taking on the unions here is the key to reforming the state's economic problem. what he did this week is he signed an executive order that took it straight to them. he said that the unions may no longer collect fees from people who don't want to be members. this is key to their political power. he then went to federal district court and filed a lawsuit that said, collection of those fees violates the first amendment, because it forces them essentially to associate with the union against their will. this is a very aggressive stance. it's key here to his strategy. >> because if you can coerce the union dues from tens of thousands of members, then you have the money to buy basically the legislature. and you have -- it's a corrupt -- i'm calling it a corrupt political bargain. unions dominate the legislature. >> you have the unions sitting across the table from the same length lay tors that they are supporting financially. it's impossible to reform a lot of the maj
