she spoke with news 4 derrick ward, he's live now with the story. derrick, what a sad sad time for this family. >> reporter: oh, it is, indeed. you can only imagine the grief they're growing through, that's mixed with pride with what he's been doing. he grew up right here in frederick. he graduated in 2002 but he left an impression on those who knew them. take a look, he jiened the marine corps right after high school. his mother tells us that he had gone through nine deployments. people who knew him growing up fully expected that career path. but, you know, what they did not expect was the way it ended. he was among 16 servicemen who died monday when the aircraft they were in went down in a field in mississippi. they were on theiray redeployment training in arizona. his mother tells us that the loss is not only felt by his family and those who love him. by his brother at arms, of the family. >> he was one of the elite of the elite. if you're going to talk about it, don't talk just about him, talk about the entire team. they were a brotherhood. they

news 4 derrick ward is live there tonight. derrick, what happened there? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you what, we're at the scene of one of the more serious shooters over the weekend, double shooting here on kansas avenue left one person and another in grave condition. this violence isn't just stopping at the weekend. this includes that shooting, it happened just a few hours ago. the shooting today means there have been 11 shootings in dc since friday leaving two people dead. this shooting happened in blocks of sunday's shooting. at this point no arrests have been made in any of these shootings. he's an advisory neighborhood commission, this district covers the area of the last two shootings. >> it's one agency. we can't rely on our police department or police officers to do it all at once. there are other agencies that we put pressure on to ensure that people aren't just getting hand outs, they're hands up. >> they're asking for the public's help. there are rewards that lead to an arrest in these cases and often it's that information from the public to h

derrick ward is live on capitol hill with more of the details on this, hey, derrick. >> reporter: well the scene is cleared now. this is the intersection of second street and independence avenue. you're looking at the library of college. that building that's in the background there. if you're familiar with this area, you know there's always a capitol police officer stationed at that little triangle where you see that red barrier. that is to keep traffic flowing well. also to stop oversized vehicles that could pose a danger to the federal enclave from entering. this was tense scene earlier this morning. it all started by 11:45. we know that the driver and police officer involved were both injured, both minor injuries. the driver, though, is some serious charges, including assault with the deadly weapon, assaulting a police officer, that's felony assault. aggravated reckless driving and driving without a permit. now, 11:45 police say the black sedan you see in the video was westbound on independence avenue when it struck the barrier and the police cruiser. now, again, there were some min

derrick ward,.s news4. back to you. >>> prince george's police searching for more clues in a homicide that happened in another part of the county. the victim actually walked into prince george's hospital center Ñ gunshot wou but did not survive. investigators were able to trace the shooting to the scene right here on landover road in hyattsville. they were able to collect some evidence there but still no word on a suspect this morning. independence day in the district. six people were shot and another person stabbed overnight in various incidents around the city. 3:00 a.m. d.c. police say a boy was among those shot. it's not clear how old he is. another man died. >>> right now, president trump is on his way to poland. that will be the first stop of his trip overseas but the highlights of it will be his meeting on friday with russian president vladimir putin. the big question looming over it, will the president bring up russia's role in the presidential election? news4's tracie potts has a look. >> reporter:

news 4 derrick ward is live that this crash derrick, tell us about this. >> well, you know, what we're looking at right here is part of $116 million in infrastructure changes. it's going to include on and off ramps they think it will make this road safer and eliminating some of those intersections. now, the question remains would that have made any difference this that deadly crash this morning. it was about a wrong way driver and head-on collision and it happened just over there. investigators believe a northbound motorist was traveling on the southbound side and that car collided with southbound car killing the drivers of both vehicles. police have yet to determine how the car ended up on the wrong side of the road but familiar with route 210 on the highway just adds to the notoriety of this busy thoroughfare. it bring the toll of lives lost since january. countless serious accidents and pedestrian fata enough to warrant changes about the use of speed cameras. to deterrence driving and changes in the way some motorist think and drive. >> it's the riding the shoulders and break that s

. >> news 4 derrick ward is live, he's got more details on what happened there, derrick, what's the word. >> reporter: actually there were two explosions here. they call those disruptions. take a look, the scene now, the car is just on the other side of that tow truck, actually sat back up on the flat tow truck. this incident started earlier this morning, it was about 11:45. we're able to show you an elevated view from mass cam, maybe give you a better shot of the area. this is right at the intersection of second street near the thomas jefferson building. now, this car was westbound on independence avenue when it struck a barrier and u.s. capitol police cruiser. the driver of that car and an officer suffered some minor injuries. now, police immediately checked that car out as a suspicious vehicle. and what they did is they disrupted it twice. they brought the robot out and they did small controlled explosions to open up the trunk of the car. about 2:45 a bomb tech came out and look to the trunk of that car and pretty much cleared it. major traffic says they closed most of the streets in

news 4 derrick ward is back there as people continue to pick up the pieces. >> the day after and the devastation is still efvident. the ef-2 tornado hitting hard a block or two inland. with the clean up effort already underway, this community is starting to recover. it's going to be hard for these folks, some of this damage is just beyond repair. this is the one that was lifted off the foundation and dropped back with her inside. just across the street, another resident considers her own misfortune. that may have saved her from worse damage. >> the roof was coming off and the tree fell on top of that. >> reporter: still her truck smashed and there's a hole in the roof. but she and others escaped. >> i've been able to go out and talk to some of the residents. everybody is very happy and blessed that there were no fatalities. >> kind of looped in because they were coming there. >> state and local officials railroad out touring and assessing the damage today. they're considering it possible tax relief for those hit hardest. in stevensville, news 4. >>> dc man goes to court next week acc
