you can see eastbound traffic getting through. but just a few cars, westbound traffic completely closed. so we know this has impacted eastbound traffic across san rafael bridge and highway 37. but it has caused a massive mess in san francisco. we can call traffic mayhem. in fact, not only is the california line for the cable car shutdown, all cable car lines have been shut down because of the gridlock in the city. the cable cars couldn't even get across intersections. so all cable cars shut down. i picked out a few spots. traffic is crawling everywhere. in fact, along the embarcadero, it's going to take you over an hour to head to the freeway. even battery street will take almost an hour for about a mile stretch. and eastbound 37 has been a mess this afternoon. you can see it's still a crawl there out to sears point. but drivetime has improved. it was over three hours. now it's about an hour and 37 minutes, and it's about an hour heading to the richmond san rafael bridge on eastbound 580. all delays expected for ac transit transba

this is the lower deck eastbound. it happened, it started happening this morning when a motorist called 911 and said a big chunk of concrete had hit his car, his or her car, on their way to the airport. they didn't stop to have the vehicle inspected because they were trying to catch a flight. fortunately no one was injured. now let's show you some video from earlier today when the bridge was closed down entirely in both directions after that 911 call. it was closed about 11:00 this morning. first the eastbound lanes, then the westbound lanes. traffic was backed up for miles in both directions. at one point we saw from sky 7 people were trying to back up, they were trying to turn around on the freeway at 2:30 or so. again, we heard from the chp, and let's hear about how it all started. >> around 10:35 this morning, we received a 911 call from a driver stating that as they were going eastbound, a large chunk fell and hit their car. they reported to us that they had sustained major damage, however they were on their way
