heather holmes has the story. >> reporter: this new letter sheds the light on the story. it was last friday when that young gorilla kabibe darted under the door as it was closing. the zoo officials sent this letter by the zoo worker who was at the court reporting schools of the door. it said i began to close electric door four. when i looked again, it was closed and kabibe was trapped across her chest. it took 20 minutes to get bawang, her grandmother and caretaker. it took about 20 minutes to separate them. it shows how close the two more. now, we also were sent a photo of a warning sign that was posted near the gorilla door. and it says among other safety measures, that handlers must keep their hands on the emergency stop button at all times. it also says not to leave the electrical panel until the operation of the door is complete. i want to share with you video after little kabibe, you can see the adorable little gorilla interacting with the visitors there. her grandmother and primary caretaker and the other gorillas are greaserring the loss. a zoo spokeswoman called

heather holmes is here now with what that letter says. >> reporter: the accident happened last friday as the gorillas were taken into their nighttime enclosure. a zoo official sent us a handwritten statement by the zoo worker who was at the controls of the hydraulic door and it says in part, "i began to close lek rick door 4. when i looked at the door, it was closed and she was caught in the door across her chest. and immediately, i opened and i immediately opened the door and bewang took her into the room. it took 20 or 50 minutes to get bawang and kabibe separated. we were sent a photo of a sign posted near the door. it says that handlers must keep their hands on the emergency stop button at all times. it also says not to leave the electrical panel until operation of the door is complete. i want to show you some video of kabibe that was posted on facebook. you can see her interacting with visitors. so cute. the young gorilla is shown here playing. we are told her grandmother and primary caretaker along with the other gorillas are grieving her loss. the spokeswoman calls it a tragic
