democrat katie hobbs leads republican kari lake.zona is grabbing headlines with its senate race right now. cnn is projecting the incumbent democrat senator mark kelly will hold on to his seat. that means the senate is now deadlocked with republicans and democrats having 49 seats each. democrats will keep control of the senate with at least 50 seats, and that could come from nevada where new numbers are also being released soon. republican adam laxalt holds a razor-thin lead over the democratic incumbent, senator cath catherine cortez masto right now. his lead has shrivelled to a mere 862 votes. that's 862 votes out of nearly a million counted so far. we're following all of the key races and all of the latest developments. our reporters are out there in the battleground states. john berman will break it down at the magic wall. let's go to kyung lah first. what are you seeing? >> reporter: we are waiting and anticipating in the next couple of minutes or so, we are hoping. it has been a bit fluid every single night, but we are anticipa

and hobbs apt 50.5.hen the new votes come in statewide, kari lake needs to probably get 55%, 57% somewhere in that ballpark so when we get the big major drop of votes from maricopa county, the largest outstanding batch of votes still to be count, when we get those, is kari lake running anywhere near that numbers. that's where it matters most. getting 48% in maricopa count toe 52 for katie hobbs. kari lake has to be closer to 55% when the votes come in and see if she's matching that mum and there are more votes in pima county, not as many in maricopa. pima, the second largest county, maricopa the largest county, when you pull out and look at the map, they are both blue. katie hobbs has been leading in both of those counties. if she leads in the remaining vote installment she's the next governor. if not later installments, you know, kari lake can come back the math gets interesting. we are expecting the maricopa votes in the next hour. that's the biggest sign. will it be enough to protect the race? up clea

hobbs was brutally beaten.e was put back in confinement almost two weeks, on medical treatment. so, that is another aspect of this case that we are looking at. the video is exactly what you see. the fact that they gave false reports to the united states probation officer, the attorney in north carolina, it is appalling in itself. the united states attorney's office dismissed those claims. when they saw the video but -- camden county, they knew that mr. hobbs did not commit any assault but that assault was committed against him. the sheriff gave a statement today that he was going to investigate this matter -- although he had just learned about it. these issues took place at the end of summer. september the 3rd. the naacp president of the local chapter went to the jail, questions -- asked a question about mr. hobbs. he did not get any answered. and not until this video came out -- then and only then -- the sheriff decided to jump into action. we learned today that the -- buck helped investigate this matter. >> b

katie hobbs and kari lake.u're looking at that 51.8% that kari lake brought in here, of course, that is below that 53% level there. and so, she is still in the ball game here. but essentially, you are coming in at the bottom of the, night down more to, three runs, then down by one. so, when you're looking at this here, i gotta go back to conversations. yesterday i was having conversations -- and steep alluded to this here. there was pushback by republicans that last night ballot drop did not go in kari lake's favor was because the initial, those first batch of ballots that made it here to this county facility to get counted where from the democratic areas right around here. first in, first ones to be counted here. and so what this suggests, to an extent, that was true. so then, that becomes the next question, what happens tomorrow? because what they are saying is, particularly in some of these conservative voting centers, where there were longer lines the other night after the tabulation machine errors, the rep

katie hobbs has an advantage here, 52.4% to 47.6%. we've been told to expect tonight at some point to get a similar size vote drop that we got yesterday. that would be roughly around 80 thousa 80,000 votes or so we may get out of maricopa county. these are mail ballots that people filled out but actually dropped them off at an election center on election day. so when we see what those votes look like when they come in tonight, we'll have a better understanding of where this race is going. right now, this is a much closer race than that mark kelly/blake masters senate race was that we projected yesterday. just to remind you, mark kelly was at nearly 52%, blake masters at 46% now in the vote count. mark kelly currently has 131,000 vote lead over blake masters. you can see why we were able to project mark kelly the winner in that race. if you go back to the governors race this was a much more important contest. kari lake has roots in the phoenix area. she's been on tv there for years. she is a known person in this most populace county. s

where hobbs has done well and where she is not. one of the biggest talking points here is that the democratic gubernatorial candidate refused to debate the republican candidate. katie hobbs has argued that kari lake is peddling misinformation, she outright lies about election integrity and hobbs did not want to dignify those statements with a formal debate. the problem for hobbs is that it may have affected her name recognition a little bit. she has not been quite as out there as kari lake so when people are watching the news and hearing the news, we are not hearing as much about her. it is possible doing something like a debate, getting out there would have raised her profile a little bit. but only time will tell. this is the kind of thing we all look back on our election day and decide what the missteps were on either side of the aisle. but it is something that has been really troubling i think to democrats and all those in arizona, they have been relying on campaigns, ads, all the traditional ways we are learning about our candi

in the governor's race, you can see that hobbs is leading but by a vastly reduced margin. so in hobbs's case, if that final vote is strongly republican, there is room there for kari lake to passer. it will be very interesting to see the second batch, because i think the second batch at the lightning -- last night will be purely devote dropped off. there was other stuff included last night, but this one will purely be the vote that was dropped off by voters on election day. there's also the possibility of some geographical variants here, maybe some of the more democratic from the areas of maricopa county that were disproportionately part of that mix last night, might be more republican friendly areas tonight, so i think again, when we look at it tonight, no get a sense if there's a path there for kari lake to overtake katie hobbs. if the democrats -- if hobbs gets more votes out of tonight's update on lake, that's potentially very significant to, because you start to say, is like going to get it all, even close to what republicans were talking about getting out of here, bec

where hobbs has done well and where she is not.est talking points here is that the democratic gubernatorial candidate refused to debate the republican candidate. katie hobbs has argued that kari lake is peddling misinformation, she outright lies about election integrity and hobbs did not want to dignify those statements with a formal debate. the problem for hobbs is that it may have affected her name recognition a little bit. she has not been quite as out there as kari lake so when people are watching the news and hearing the news, we are not hearing as much about her. it is possible doing something like a debate, getting out there would have raised her profile a little bit. but only time will tell. this is the kind of thing we all look back on our election day and decide what the missteps were on either side of the aisle. but it is something that has been really troubling i think to democrats and all those in arizona, they have been relying on campaigns, ads, all the traditional ways we are learning about our candidates. but the f

katie hobbs lead. what this does not include is the what you mentioned there, the two hundred ninety thousand ballots that were dropped off record breaking number of ballots dropped off in person on election day, the early ballots. now, that wasn't enthusiasm, enthusiasm for katie hobbs. that was those were catholic voters. and so we're really looking forward to them finally telling the whole story in maricopa county. they still have over three hundred and twenty five thousand or so to go. and the numbers are only going to get better from there. and so even if they had dropped those seventeen thousand alone, that would have destroyed the lead that the maricopa county is artificially propagating out there. so we do feel pretty good about the top of the ticket in arizona. so, again, this is the gubernatorial race. and even though katie hobbs is now up, i think one point three , four percent with what we know right at this moment, you're saying that ballots that were brought to the polling centers on elec

and hobbs jumping out to a significant but slight lead. and so kari lake is telling her supporters that essentially you have to be worried about the election process to bring in your ballots, your mail-in ballots on election day, that there would be a flood of support every subsequent day. and every subsequent day we did see support for kari lake, but in cases where those votes had to come back as hooks, they came back as jabs. and as the exponentially compounds every day, those hooks then neededaymakers and they were still jabs until the knockout punch last night. and it seems to be a full throated rebuke of denialism in the state of arizona, ground zero for essentially a part of the soul of this country from secretary of state to senator to now governor, voters who now really line up in three different ways, independent, republicans democrat, almost along those lines perfectly in a core of more moderate people that probably voted for mccain all their lives didn't feel like kari lake was speaking to them so they went the other way. will k
