there are humboldt county. they're saying there aren't any outages due to this earthquake here in the bay area that all of the outages are primarily and not far from the epicenter of the quake. they have crews on the ground in the air. as i mentioned after this earthquake was felt this morning pg reserved received an alert from its geosciences team called for all hands on deck. they open their emergency operators operation center and they have deployed crews now. they say they've inspected a 17 substations and they found damage at one of the substations, which would explain why the power outages are widespread. they also say they have i gotten reports of gas leaks and found gas leaks. they have crews on the ground looking for gas leaks. so that work is ongoing. ongoing. i spoke to pga just a short time ago. they say crews there are finding dangerous conditions and that once they finish the assessments, it could take some time to get the lights back on. >> there are a lot of hazards specially we're seeing buildi

we're continuing our coverage of recovery efforts underway in humboldt county following this 6.4 earthquake there. two people died of medical emergencies during that quake. a dozen more were injured 14,000 pjd customers are still without power this morning, governor gavin newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for humboldt county to support the emergency response. aftershocks continue in that area. ktvu was brooks jarocz has been getting a firsthand look at some of the damage. you've been talking to some of the residents about the challenges they're facing with brooks. what are they telling you? ali. we've spent the morning in fortuna, and the biggest challenge is the power. it is still not on in this city. but we've seen a steady stream of pg and e cruise all up and down main street and the surrounding neighborhoods. right now we're at a grocery store. this is raised food palace and the problem here. the reason you see all this yellow tape is that this place has been red tagged. why because inside there is structural damage and it is considered unsafe. now this is problematic because this

she has been focusing on the earthquake in humboldt county.w for myself and others, we are all thinking, that happened 200 miles north of us, what about right here in the bay area? >> exactly. there is a good probability. the usgs put out that there is a 72% chance that within the next 20 years, we could experience a 6.7 or greater magnitude earthquake. to put that into perspective, we need to start thinking ahead. this could happen to us. it happened to the lost coast yesterday in the early morning hours. now they are seeing scattered showers in the forecast on thursday. the showers will also push in here to the bay. that will impact the recovery process up there . we are talking about boots on the ground dealing with wet conditions. they are trying to recover. the showers will track off into san francisco as we go through the late, evening hours tomorrow. it does clear up on friday, leaving us with partly cloudy skies in time for christmas eve and christmas around the corner. as far as earthquake, there were dozens and dozens of aftershocks

good evening, meanwhile, communities in humboldt county are still requiring recovering from earthquake that hurt two people and 17 others. people are hard at work picking up the pieces in the aftermath. crews have been working around the clock to restore damage to homes and roads there. communities across the area are without water and power for a second day. the fire hall in rio dell, about 20 minutes south of eureka is the staging point. pallets of water have been donated and they are being handed out to people living in the area. about 30 structures have been red tagged. 50 have been yellow tag. if i enter firefighter says many community members jumped to action following the quake's aftermath. >> all i saw was a bunch of people running around. i was asking them, do you need help? no. i'm going to help someone else. i was very impressed by that. knowing people in this community is a great thing. especially when you need something. you always have someone to fall back on. >> everyone in humboldt county right now has their power back. take a look. this is what the pg&e outage map look
