reporting live, jade hernandez back to you in the studio. >> thank you, jade. we'll be continuing to follow this for at least the next few minutes. once again, this all started about 7:00 this morning. a person in the car, in an suv, called a radio station and they pulled over on the bay bridge. police swarmed in. shut down the upper deck of the bay bridge. took about an hour or so for negotiators to bring it to a peaceful ending. that person is in custody. they are still keeping the bridge closed. what you can -- you can see how traffic is affected. we can also look back and figure out -- if you didn't see everything that was happening at the time -- we're gonna go to the video of the suspect on the bridge. if we can go to that, maybe we can. maybe we can. there you see right there the man with the striped shirt on the phone with someone pointing and there's his vehicle right there. this was at the heart of this whole controversy this morning. very, very tense moments. you can see him, at one point he was on the very edge of the ledge. we were watching closely

jade hernandez joins us live from pacifica. hi, jade. >> reporter: good morning. we can feel gusts this morning. in fact it stopped raining right now. but about 20 minutes ago it was raining pretty hard. this storm has weakened an already weak crumbling cliff. today we can show you the equipment that crews will actually use to help shore up the cliff face on the apartment building nearby. pacifica's building safety department says there haven't been any major changes to the area in months. but the wet and soggy weather did bring down clumps of the cliff face over the weekend scaring those resident who is live around this area. we've been told the wall being put into place designed to hold the sandy buff in place will be installed today. the work being done on the backside of the bluff apartment complex. it's preventive. and the safety department has been pushing for eight months to get some of this work done. but now it has to be complete. >> the erosion is eminent. it's all there. if we get a lot of rain, it's going to erode the cliff. and the coastal commission

ktvu's jade hernandez has been out there all day. what's the very latest, jade? >> an amtrak spokesman told me there are about 53 passengers on this amtrak train that was involved in this collision. no one on board was hurt. these passengers were coming from sacramento. and they've already boarded another train and are headed onto their destination. we're being told that this collision involved two young men, walking along train tracks. now, the train collided with one of the men and killed him. we don't know if this train, which usually runs at speeds around 70 miles per hour, had time to break or not. the amtrak spokesperson did call the young men trespassers, since they were on the train tracks when they were not supposed to be. this second train, you can see it here, pulled up about 20 minutes ago, to take passengers onto their final destination. the train left about five minutes ago. amtrak's assistant superintendent of road operations is still out here this morning. he could not go on camera and talk to us about the collision. but he was assessing the situa

jade hernandez is in san jose with an update. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. a fire investigator i just spoke to has confirmed this is a suspicious fire. firefighters are still out here at this point, monitoring hot spots, but for the most part, they are wrapping up their effort. several calls came into dispatch this morning, about two buildings on fire around 2:38 overnight. one a recycling facility, the other a bar here in san jose. the buildings are connected by an alleyway. sources told us initially this fire was suspicious and fires broke out in the area. a spokesperson told me there could be more information in the next hour. so as soon as we get more information, we'll pass it on to you. they are waiting for a full investigation to be completed. but the arson investigator did confirm this fire is suspicious. they say the fire quickly grew to four alarms. >> flames toward the rolf. we had had fire toward the back. we had had a third crew that went down the alley in between to put out the fire in the rear. >> reporter: this fire affected union pacific car
