katie marzullo? >> this is a busy spot anyway, and a lot more will want to talk the bus. we have been watching this board all morning which has been changing. when the bart screen comes up the blue across the top are bart with no departing times. that is because no trains are running. the terminal now is quiet because the buses have not started arriving. there will be some good news, a.c. transit will not strike and they will operate more buss if they can and they will look for extra seating options. bart is running chatter buses from the east bay to west oakland to the city from 5:00 to 9:00, and you use your same ticket to get back. your bus stop could be in a different location, the ones that are located in the bart station are moved to the street. and there is enhanced transbay link service every 16 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes at midday so the buses are trying to pick up the slack from the bart strike. katie marzullo? >> if you have the option to get across the bay is by ferry

abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is in alameda. katie? >> people are happy with the ferry ride but they are more crowded. if you look at the second line forming we showed you 30 minutes ago the first ferry that at 6:00 a.m. the line extended beyond the dock into the parking lot and new there are two lines forming one away from san francisco and one to san francisco. the commuters are enjoying the ride but people would always ride the ferry, not necessarily bart commuters have had to adjust their schedule to be able to get a seat on their regular ride. >> it is earlier each day. yesterday i was here at 5:30, today at 5:15, i want to get a seat and a place to park. it is crazy. if you do not get on early you do not get on at all. >> a couple of different amenities at alameda main street ferry station. one is free bicycle valet. this is also free shuttles taking you from different location and auxiliary parking and extra packing. the route to san francisco ferry is direct, this is no stop in oakland. the route to south san francisco is stayi

abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has the latest on the investigation. katie? >> right now, john webb is in jail and held on $100,000 bail. he faces child endangerment charges for the circumstances that led up to his daughter's disappearance. we have a new picture of john webb this morning, and this is the backing photo on this case telling police that daphne was taken from his s.u.v. after he left her inside the vehicle with his mother who suffers from dementia when we want into a store for a few minutes, one of three areas that police are accepting for the little girl. yesterday they handed out flyers with her picture on it hoping someone will come forward. they are look near the oakland waterway an area near the airport. they are using a marine unit, a boat, and an underwater robot and a helicopter to search the shoreline at low tide. at the oakland police department a source says that daphne's mother is here right now being questioned by police. we also understand that the police are going to give an update at 7:00 this morning so when that happens we will

abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is in the newsroom. >> what the 15-year-old girl told authorities about the kidnapping is very disturbing. federal agents have uncovered evidence that backs up the story. it started when agents uncovered a large growing operation north of the bay area if lake county on the property they found, as well, sexual bond average equipment and a noose and homemade wooden rack used to immobilize a person. a 4' long 2' wide box with air holes. the 15-year-old was kept in the box for three days at a time and forced into sex act and trimming the pot plants. they said she was a trooper because she didn't scream inside the box and they order her to not mess up because there was a lot money on the "grow." the agents found a thousand marijuana plants mostly more than 6' tall and a group of 22 weapons, mostly loaded. police arrested ryan baletto found at a site and patrick pearmain who was found at a sacramento motel with the teen girl. right now the men are facing drug charges including the use of a minor in a drug operation, kidnapping chances are sure to follow the gir

katie marzullo? >> we have new information happening overnight, we understand from a source that the girl's mother is here at the oakland police department being questioned by the miss. right now. we have information on her father, john webb, who is still in jail being held on $100,000 bail and could be arraigned this afternoon on child endangerment charges. the search continues for the 21-month-old girl. she was taken from the s.u.v. according to the dad when he went in a store on wednesday morning. police and the f.b.i. have been looking for the gill since then, yesterday passing out flyers with her picture on them near the store. a marine unit and an underwater robot have been searching the water near the oakland airport where the daughter and father were known to frequent. the oakland police department is bringing in the use of a helicopter. they will fly over the waterways as the tide recedes. the reason the oakland police arrested the girl's father is they say the fact that he left the young gi

abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has news on the charges. >> the men are facing drug charges but one is the use of a minor in a drug operation and the criminal complaint alleges, the kidnapping, rape, and torture of a 15-year-old and there are indications there could have been other victims. federal agents uncovered a large growing operation north of the bay area in lake county 22 greenhouses, they found a thousand marijuana plants mostly 6' tall and they found 22 weapons. agents found sexual bond average equipment, a homemade wooden rack presumably used to immobilize a person and 4' long toolbox with air holes and investigators have found a 15-year-old who disappeared from los angeles area in april. she says she was kept in the box for up to three days at a time forced into sexual acts and helping trim the marijuana plants. under arrest are ryan baletto who was found in a trailer at the grow site and patrick pearmain who was found at a sacramento motel with the teen girl. in the mix, was ryan baletto's girlfriend who have five children together including a seven-month-old baby. the

i'm katie marzullo in for a.m. ama daetz tonight. police are searching for a shooter. gunfire erupted just after 7:00 tonight. a man was shot at 29th and geary. he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. also tonight, a man is likely to face charges after allegedly causing a car crash that killed a woman in san leandro. the deadly crash happened at 2:30 this morning on washington boulevard. keira talked with neighbors about the 57-year-old woman who died. >> very caring, went to church every sunday. >> neighbors and family spent the day consoling one another after their beloved neighbor was killed and her husband was left fighting for his life following an early morning head-on collision. >> they were very, very nice people. very sweet. they would barbecue for everybody. >> they were driving north on san leandro and another car speeding at hundred miles an hour hit them head-on. moments before that, the police saw the driver speed past him but lost sight of him. >> as he pulled off on washington and made his turnaround on the blind curve the vehicle had struck

katie marzullo talks with people in oakland who could permanently make the switch from bart the. >> long lines at the ferry terminal marked day two of the bart strike, hundreds arriving an hour before the first boat. who are not selling tickets on the boat. there are pro's and cons. you have to pay for parking which is $4 and a runs trip ticket is $6.25 each way so it is twice as much money as i would pay catching bart. >> woman headed to south san francisco says the ferry is cleaner and faster than bart. >> even when the strike is resolved we will not go back to bart. this is a better experience and our company reimburses us. >> san francisco based ferry serviced 18,000 on monday. usually that number would be 6,000. the company is using all 11 of their boats and golden gay ferry is chipping in with a boat that can clear 400. >> each day, we will be here as long as the public needs us. >> the julyup is on thursday so some ferries will switch to a holiday schedule so check that before you head out. parking is limited at all the ferry terminals so try and get dropped off because partnering

katie marzullo? >> a ghost town right now. not a soul. not a bus. we know that is a very temporary situation. more than half a dozen bus lines come through the temporary terminal the today they are packed. the people riding the buts are probably going to have been sitting in the same traffic if more people take to their cars. it will be a rough commute. the good news is a.c. transit is not on strike. those buses and extra buses will be coming through here. bart is offering charter buses so those will be operating during peak hours at 5:00 to 9:00 and use the same ticket this evening. keep in minds your bus stop could be in a different location if you normally get on inside a bart station those bus stops are being moved to the street. there is enhanced transbay service every 15 minutes during peak hours. a smart choice to take the bus this morning. it will mean fewer cars on the road but guarantee a bumpy commute this morning. >> after cars and buses the third choice is the ferry. we will check with abc7 news reporter for the options. wayne? >> good

katie marzullo? >> the men are scheduled to be in federal court here in san francisco on wednesday morning. right now they are facing drug charges, including the use of a minor in a drug operation. the criminal complaint alleges that the kidnapping, rape and torture of the little girl. under arrest are ryan baletto who police found in a trailer there was a large marijuana grow and authorities found a thousand marijuana plants, mostly more than 6' tall. also, 22 weapons were found. that is not the worst. agents found sexual bondage equipment, a noose and a wooden rack used to immobilize a person and 4' long metal toolbox which air holes. investigators have found the 15-year-old alleged victim who said she was kept in the box for three days at a time and forced into sex acts and helping trim the marijuana plants. at the house, agents found ryan baletto's girlfriend and five children including a seven-month-old baby and 17 guns and in a gun safe, a ponytail of human hair. ryan baletto and patrick pearma

katie marzullo is at alameda at the ferry terminal. katie? >> it is quiet. the first ferry leaves at 6:00 a.m. if history is any indication we expect the first riders to show at 5:00, in an hour. the video from sky 7 you can see the packed ferries and evening commute leaving san francisco's ferry building. there were fewer riders yesterday in the morning with 7,400 taking it yesterday, down 400 people. tomorrow is a holiday so here is what to expect. >> thursday, fourth of july, we will run a special holiday schedule between vallejo and san francisco and alameda, oakland and san francisco. on the weekend, we will have our weekend service. >> if you are catching a ferry this morning at the main street terminal in alameda, remember service to south san francisco is regular. service to san francisco's ferry building is direct and boats will not stop in oakland. there is extra parking so that is good news and the parking lot is wide open. ferries are leaving every 45 minutes. >> this morning, the city of vallejo is working to refund 200 ferry riders who accident

katie marzullo is in oakland outside the meeting of the toll bridge program oversite committee. katie? >> i just stepped out of the meeting with the toll authority being briefed on the problem bolts. the executive director is saying there is plenty of blame to pass around between the owner, which is caltran, the designer, and the contractor, too, pointing out a few things so far. one, the wrong bolts were picked for this highly specialized unique bridge, or at least if certain points on the bridge. it was not a one size fits all kind of scenario. also, the design, the rods are embedded in concrete which is a problem and that is why it is so expensive to fix them when they are broken. the price tag is at $10 million. that and the fact that the steel itself was not strong enough. >> the 2008 rods that broke had higher-than-normal susceptibility to hydrogeneral brittleness. the steel was not you have to snuff but that complied with the specifications that were selected by the designer and owner of the project. if you have poor steel there is something wrong with your spec. >> he sai
