i'm joined by nbc's luke russert. luke, i've been watching you and understand you've talked to some of these stranded paengss. how are they holding up? what are they doing? how are they passing time there at laguardia? >> reporter: kind of the same way the media is passing the time, craig, sitting in the cav cafeteria and looking at their phones and enjoying the one coffee place that's open and lunch place. i've got to tell you, there's been criticism of the governor and mayor de blasio for preemptively closing the roads and shutting down the subway saying that that was too much for too little of a storm. but, when the airlines started canceling flights last night, that really did allow for a lot of people to check into a hotel or alter their travel plans. so thankfully we didn't see these horrific scenes that usually accompany a blizzard of this magnitude where you have people sprauled out on cots not enough food or chargers. all of that being said for the 70 or so that spent the night, not too pleasant. take a listen

let's go to laguardia airport, one of the three major airports where luke russert is. rter: definitely, jose. the sun is outside and shining and literally the airport is back to life. yesterday when we spoke this was a literal ghost town behind me. now it is filled with people and personnel who are needed to run the airport, the tsa agents counter agents people that run the concessions that weren't here yesterday, they were able to get to work today and things seem to be back up and running. all of that being said it is not totally smooth sailing because of the backlog. a few hundred cancellations out of laguardia this morning and there are still on-going delays. overall, though the airport seems to be operating at over 70% capacity which is better than people expected when we first heard about the storm. just from talking to a few passengers in the terminal especially ones that had been delayed, they say look now that there's life in the airport, it is not as dire as it was, we were stranded here overnight, and they think they'll be able to get out hopefully today. thi
