laura: doctor marc siegel, always good to see you.f you could explain what the health department does, sounds like gender transition surgeries are happening frequently. tell us about it. >> we have been reporting on it for a while now, what is the age? 1.7 million people identify as transgender. gendered dysphoria is less than one% of children. many by the age of 10 to 13 no longer identify that way. what we don't want to do is intervene with something somebody regrets later on. if you identify as transgender, you need a support system. there are issues of therapy involved, and then it is the do no harm point which is once you start with puberty blockers, hitting kids when they are at puberty, when they are supposed to get an outpouring of hormones, it affects bones, fertility later on, and development. the surgeries are irreversible. i think the issue is at what age do you talk about this and the second point is doctors should be free to say what they think. we can't be muzzled and if you have a physician that isn't in favor of this,
