news 4 pat collins has been closely following this. he joins us live at dc superior court. pat. >> reporter: wendy, no more dump truck driving for ismael alvarez. well, at least for the time being. mr. alvarez, can you explain to me why you left the scene of the accident? 62-year-old ismael alvarez, charged with hit-and-run after his fort myer dump truck struck a student in the crosswalk on florida avenue and then police say the truck kept on going. >> reporter: can you explain to me why you left the scene of the accident in the dump truck? it happened in november 2015. the victim, 22-year-old ethan zimmerman. he suffered brain injuries, broken bones, went through numerous surgeries and is still on the mend. now while awaiting trial on the hit-and-run charges, alvarez got involved in another serious pedestrian accident. two weeks ago he was behind the wheel of another fort myer dump truck on south dakota avenue when it ran over 23-year-old bianca but her family said she's gone through three surgeries and is still unable to walk. there's a lot of medical work yet to be done.
