we reached out to san jose police. stay with us for updates throughout the morning. >> happening today, a quieter commute. caltrain is launching a new project that could reduce the noise impacts on neighbors. >> pete suratos joining us from san carlos with all the details. this is go to impact thousands of people and thousands of earbuds. good morning. >> good morning to you. yes, it's going to impact a lot of people who live near the caltrain stations here in san  carlos, but in order to reduce noise impacts, it's going to be noisy at night, at least in the short term. caltranwill begin this project starting tonight using a rail mounted industrial sized grinder to smooth out defects along the rail. this will hopefully reduce noise in the area as well as make rides smoother for the passengers. they're going to start at the san francisco caltrain station tonight, working down the peninsula before ending in the south bay. the equipment will be used between 10:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. when there is limited train service. it

a hunger strike continues in san jose. dramatically reducing the case where renlters can be evicted without cause. >> bob, these protesters say they will fast until the city council meets this afternoon. and it's been a few days. >> reporter: correct. good morning to you. these people, some of whom say they haven't eaten since friday, are trying to convince the san jose city council at city hall to pass a new law that limits the reasons tenants or landlords can evict tenants here in the city of san jose. currently, you can be evicted from your rental for no cause whatsoever. according to city records, there are 2200 so-called no cause evictions in san jose between 2010 and 2016. the renters rights coalition, which has organized the strike, believes the numbers could be higher because some evictions go unreported. it would require that landlords have a just cause to evict. the proposal would also push landlords to be more attentive to complaints. this is their reaction. san jose already has lawed to prevent landlords from e
