please welcome me and joining claudine cheng for her remarks on this year's celebration. >> thank youeryone, for joining us for our celebration this year. the theme of our celebration is celebrate heritage, celebrated community voices. the community is selected this team for two reasons. one -- the community recognizes we care about this city, that we want our interest to be addressed, and how do we do that? we need our voices to be heard. the second reason -- we would like to inspire and encourage the next generation of leaders to be engaged and affected community voices. so far, this year, we have decided to dedicate our award to individuals and business organizations that have been effective community voices. there is a listing of all the finalists in the program books. they have all been magnificent. thank you on behalf of the community. i hope -- i know all of them are here tonight and i would like to ask them to stand and be recognized. all of our awards finalists, please stand and be recognized. claudine joins us now. >> reporter: we are watching the situation closely. the situation now is that the tent city is still here. in fact, it is growing. but so is criticism. specifically from surrounding businesses. and now the chronicle is reporting that a source in oakland pd say that training exercises have been canceled next week. why is that important? because if they needed to clear everyone out of here they will need all of their resources. some speculate that we could possibly be looking at another attempt to clear out the plaza. the mayor says the encampment is not only hurting jobs, but costing the city too much. clearly, the city was criticized the last time they cleared out protesters, so the question is will it be violent again. we want to show you some video that oakland police just released, the scene on october 25th when things got violent. this is a wide angle of 8th and washington and the video was release after a california public records request. this shows the public what it looked like from the police perspective and what they were up

life in oakland, claudine wong. >>> time now 6:33.berkley campus protesters will take part in occupy calculator today. at noontime students, professors and campus workers will rally against tuition hikes, program cuts and privatizing cal's public education system. they also plan to camp out on school grounds for two days. occupy protesters in different cities are actually helping each other out. demonstrators in walnut creek will hold a collection drive. contra county protesters will gather at 4:00 p.m. on north main street to collect supplies. the wall nut creek movement has been moving. demonstrators picketed in front of banks last saturday as part of a nationwide bank transfer day. >>> in election news this morning, it appears the three races will be decided by rank choice voting. we have the preliminary results from the san francisco mayor's race. ed lee is in first place followed by john avalos with 19% and dennis herrera with 11%. ktvu's channel 2 reporter joins us now. you said they were kind of taking a break from the vote cou

ktvu claudine wong is live with the status of the standoff. >> reporter: authorities -- the camp is still here, one said the plan is to defend the encampment. the long-term plan to defend the encampment. what is still unclear, the police plan. >> i'm ordering you to remove all tents and other camping equipment, failure to do so you'll be subject to citation or arrest. >> the point seems to be to issue warnings. the bullhorn announcement started at 2 this morning, and we saw additional ones at 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. but warnings didn't seem to phase the protestors. >> i don't plan to move because this is my right as an american, as a person. >> as day broke and the day began here on campus, protestors told us they felt victorious. the tents they say are part of the message. >> we think the tents say saying, that we're here and it forces the administration right in front of the plaza to confront the pact we're not going anywhere and say to the university that we demand public access to public education. >> it appears students make up most of the encampment but the oldest protestor is a man
