what do you think donald trump should do? if you were advising donald trump, what would you say? how would you tell him to deal with carly fiorina on wednesday? >> be himself. be nice, be polite. i mean, if this subject comes up about the "rolling stone" comment, i would bring up her comment about the physical appearance of barbara boxer which was caught on a cnn live mike when she was running for the u.s. senate. i would also bring up this business about she didn't get a call from bill clinton. ruth marcus of the "washington post" wrote a long piece the other week that said that when she was in a makeup room with carly fiorina, back in 2008, when carly was doing this -- some surrogate things for john mccain, she confessed to ruth marcus that, well, gee, if mccain wasn't in the race, she would be supporting hillary. so if i were donald trump, i would bring that up. >> you see, i wouldn't. i think it would give us all something to talk about. and i don't have any expectations that this happens. after all, donald trump has said he doesn't ask god for forgiveness. it would be amazin

donald trump speak to go a full house in dallas. an airlines center in dallas, which is home to the nba mavericks. trump named mark cuban tonight in what's become his trademark off-the-cuff style of speaking. a big hour ahead for us including a conversation with his rival, dr. beb carson and a preview of wednesday's cnn debate in california. i'm joined by one of the people who will be asking the questions. but first, a sample from donald trump tonight.

everybody following donald trump's every move, even the business channels. mr. trump said he was giving up his outsider status as somebody not beholden to the party that he would support whoever the republican nominee is and would not run as an independent candidate. the other thing is he's starting to give up the other thing that sets him apart from other candidates. the perceived spontaneity and authenticity. this big media circus was for a circus act starting to feel rehearsed. his appeal and the fascination is in large part because of the spontaneous, unscripted, real, but he's not doing that anymore, if he ever was. for example, here is what mr. trump said today about jeb bush. >> jeb bush is a very nice man. i will be honest. he's a very nice person. i think he is a very low energy person. >> jeb bush a very low energy it shall that sounds familiar. that's because mr. trump has said it about a zillion times now. >> jeb is a nice person. he's very low energy. i'm not used to that kind of person. >> people are tired of low energy people. >> jeb bush is a low

you were introducing the man of the hour, donald trump, that big arena packing thousands and thousandsbut first, you actually rode with trump from new york to dallas on the trump plane. give me the juice. what was that like? >> i will be honest, i felt like the conservative cinderella. i woke up in the morning and i have been with campaigns traveling with them for the past couple months. we have done the buss and mini vans. . i have never gotten on a plane. this was amazing to walk on there. but here was the surprising element. maybe this is the juicy gossip people want to hear. it was a very classy, not a party atmosphere. mr. trump, i have been with candidates who will close the door and not. around. he was with us the entire time. not hovering, but just sitting there and studying notes, handwritten notes he had taken on all sorts of points and philosophies. flipping through the news channels, and yes, he turned on cnn. listening and studying what people said and would practice his reply back. all this talk about not debate prep, the key is he's debate prepping how he should, with re

they don't care if donald trump ends up making money on this plan if they believe trump would help theirs grow and i give trump a lot of credit for focusing on that in the way that you have other elected politicians, they've taken polls and they are supposed to know how to appeal to people. how many have a clear message of economic growth as donald trump did? >> and you and donald trump, bill, have not -- it's a pretty set of positive things that you're saying, given that. david gergen, is he going to have a substantive conversation about it, which he just did, and having such a massive tax cut. does he win anybody over? >> i think there are preliminary tests one has to pass. it's not just in the ballot box. but do you meet the standards of credibility? are you a serious person? are you going to be a prudent person and tax cuts, we all agree on this panel, tax cuts are a worthy thing but for the last ten years we've been talking a lot about deficits, too. we should not forget -- he says it's revenue neutral. it's not going to cost us anything. well, let's see what the arithmetic is that
