i'm eric thomas. we're following developing news out of hayward after officers shot a person after he ran his vehicle injuring into officers. lisa? >> reporter: eric, police just briefed me on a very complicated crime scene which started just two miles from here. >> we have an active shooting scene here. >> reporter: this is the call for help that went out haywa hayward. a stolen mercedes had been spotted. when police arrived, two men were in the car and wouldn't get out, when the suspect put it in drive. >> he was ramming multiple police vehicles, hit an officer on foot. at that point, officers discharged their weapon, obviously in defense of their own lives, and that of others. and the vehicle continued to flee the scene and then struck an additional two vehicles after that exchange. >> reporter: the driver of the stolen car drove along patrick and finally came to a stop at gomer. that's when the passenger made a run for it but police chased him down. the driver had been hit by a bullet. he is in the

i'm eric thomas. the clayton fire started near lower lake and expanded this afternoon. the fire burned 3,000 acres. right now it is only 5% contained. cal fire has confirmed 10 structures has been destroyed, though it appears many more are now gone. right now more than 500 homes are threatened and have been evacuated. abc news president arer lilian -- news reporter lilian kim has more. >> reporter: we are on main street here at lower lake and structures or what is left of them are still burning. this is what we are seeing in the neighborhoods as well, pure devastation. firefighters are calling it the clayton fire because it started near clayton creek road. the crews seemed to have a handle on it until it blew up this afternoon taking over the town. >> in a matter of 20 or 30 minutes you look around you and there is black smoke and flames that are 40-feet tall. >> he is using water from his pool to put out hotspots on his property. earlier he and his son used the pool as shelter from the on coming flames. >> how long were you in the pool? >> 20 or 15 minutes. they got in

i'm chris nguyen in for eric thomas. we begin with new details on an expanding rape case in pacifica. >> reporter: the suspect is accused of drugging all the victims before raping them. now investigators believe he invited others to participate in the rapes, which the suspect allegedly videotaped, as well. police arrested joseph kourtney july 28th at his home. this is why they believe most of the victims were drugged, raped while unconscious and videotaped. no one answered the door, but neighbors say he lives here with his mother, sister, and 3-year-old niece. >> we suspected it for a long time. >> reporter: those in this neighborhood say something illegal was happening here for years. they called the police. they suspected drugs were involved, and no no one is surprised but any of it. >> this could have been stopped a long time ago, and it's just awful. everything that's going on. >> i think it's wrong. there should be nobody like this in the neighborhood. my children, i got grandchildren, and they're small. >> reporter
