kari hall tracking it all with her full weather forecast at the top of the next hour. >> all right, more questions this morning about the cleanup of the hunter's naval point shipyard. it's slated for new development. >> our investigative unit examines new allegations of radiation at the shipyard again, calling into question claimed by federal officials that the land is clean. >> good morning. a former worker tells us he detected an elevated level of a radioactive element on an area of the shipyard where he didn't expect to find it. he says his baas told him to keep quiet about it. now, this is back in 2009. the land in question now belongs to the city of san francisco and is closed to new construction. you may remember this whistle blower. he first revealed to nbc bay area claims that supervisors ordered workers to switch contaminated soil samples with clean ones. claims later confirmed, but a nuclear regulatory commission. he told the feds about a hot spot of cesium nearly a year ago and wants the area to be tested. the navy is still investigating if that's necessary. the man in charge

kari hall will tell us about that in a few minutes. >>> they're not approved by the faa and they canc bay area found that bogus parts are finding their way on commercial jetliners more often than you might think. here's stephen stock with more. >> reporter: we dug through a decade worth of federal records and found 172 cases where the faa reported unapproved or bogus parts had been found on the airplanes. unapproved parts haven't been tested or approved by the faa to be used during the stresses of flight. we found some of those cases involved thousands of airplanes, including commercial airlines for domestic u.s. carriers. in many cases, the airlines didn't even know they were flying with unapproved parts. we also went to one parts maker located in huntington beach that had been told by the faa to stop making parts after regulators said the company falsified documents but that company remains open and we saw employees boxing up parts, parts that one worker told me they are no longer selling. you can see what else we found, plus a list of all the commercial airlines where the bogus pa

meteorologist kari hall is the woman of the hour. how hot are we going to get?>> it's going to be hot this weekend, feeling like summer. it's a beautiful day with all of the sunshine and temperatures in san franciscoñr 66 degrees, faiy mild and looking across the bay from berkeley, it's 70 degrees, and we see the sun also shining, and it will be warming up. our temperatures up to 81 degrees in oakland and 93 degrees in concord so we'll see some of the inland valleys and in the delta reaching the low 90s while theñr inner bay wl be into the upper 80s and 70s along coast. we may be close to setting some new record high temperatures for the next couple of days. a lot of temperatures staying very close like oakland. we'll be watching that thermometer for tomorrow and maybe tying the old record set back in 2013. we egtake a look at old numbers and more on look ahead to next week. that's coming up. >> now to a sprawling accident scene in oakland hills that led to a major rescue operation just this morning. that car that you're looking at from above sped down a hill, c

kari hall joining us with a look at your forecast. kari?ill be a beautiful start into the next couple days. the start for the weekend, here's a live look outside at fremont. we know it's been windy these past couple days because we're in transition and it will be a cooler day after we start out at 58 degrees. going to see the high temperatures later today for the inland areas reaching into the low to mid-70s which is cooler than where we should be for this time of year. along the coast 58 degrees at half moon bay. in san francisco 61 and 71 today in napa so get out there and enjoy it. we will talk about the weekend forecast, the few events going on is coming up in seven minutes. mike is talking about a new crash in the tri-valley. >>> we had a mild build and an easier calmer commute, we had calmer but we see the south bay. there is a build there, in the tri-valley this continues to change over the last five minutes. slowing south 680 where there's a crash reported possibly blocking one lane. the speed sensors adjusted but we see clearing at

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. when can we expect improvement? >> we'll have gusty winds as we go through the early morning and afternoon. the winds will be picking up. we see the direction of the wind speeds by these arrows here blowing onshore and also across the bay, so as we get a look closer at the smoke, it's mostly flowing into sassoon bay and mostly over the marshlands so we won't see this moving over towards vallejo and as there's an approaching cold front we can see by the clouds spanning over the ocean and moving closer to the bay area. that will cause the winds to increase as we go into the rest of the afternoon. so the smoke is still coming in from the west and moving off towards the east, and we will still see that same wind direction, even as this cold front approaches, but it will be stronger which may carry it a little bit farther off towards the east, and we'll continue to monitor that. sam and kris. >> thank you very much. a live look at that flaring once again and as kari mentioned we'll continue to follow this breaking news.

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall. usually i'm freezing when i'm out there in the live truck. today didn't even wear tight. >> you'll be freezing by this weekend. that's the kind of wild weather we'll be experiencing going into the next several days. santa rosa, one of the places we're watching where highs reach into the 90s and also in concord. already at 83 degrees, and look at all of of this sunshine. as we keep an eye on the thermometer the temperatures continue to claim. >> 73 in oakland and palo alto is 77 and 79 degrees in san jose. want to show you where we're headed as we go through the days with the highs reaching up to 90s, livermore, morgan hill. san francisco up to 82 degrees and 92 today in santa rosa. looking at some of the temperatures and we we may set record. napa, the record is 93 set back in 1966. other places are close and we may set a new record in richmond and livermore and san jose just a few degrees below the record high temperatures. as we go through today and tomorrow, really hot, and then it cools down and we'll talk more about that coming up in the

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the rising temperatures, and we're talking about dangerous heat here. >> especially for those with breathing sensitivity, and we also have a spare the air alert. air quality will be unhealthy today as ozone levels will be going up, especially for the east bay. north bay and south bay will have moderate air quality which means limit your time outdoors as temperatures heat up. we have a lot of sunshine and it's all for the inland valleys. up to 89 degrees in san jose and 91 in livermore. 83 degrees in oakland today and 94 in concord. so with those high temperatures reaching the 90s, we will be nearing some record highs. in napa the forecast is 90 degrees, and the record is just two degrees above that. san francisco one degree shy of the record, and in san jose, we may be tying the record of 90 degrees that was set back in 2013. we'll closely watch the thermometer as it rises today. we'll talk about that, and when it all cools down coming up in just a few minutes. >> kari, sounds good. thanks so much. the coverage of the wildfire danger continue
