meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the storm for us. kari, how is it looking? >> the rain is light and spotty. this really doesn't keep you inside. it's just enough to where as you're walking outside, you might walk a little faster and turning on the windshield wipers. looking at stormranger, parked on san bruno mountain, part of a weakening storm system that continues to move through, bringing lots of clouds and every now and then some rain. and then we talked about another storm system that will be moving in by the end of the weekend. it's still well out over the pacific, so in between we'll have a little bit of a break. this is the way the radar may pan out and this is what you may see going throughout the next couple of hours. still some spotty rain in the south bay, parts of the peninsula and east bay. but really not a whole lot going on here. and then as we go into tomorrow, we're going to see partly cloudy skies, but overall, fairly dry. and then on sunday, we'll start to see those showers moving in late in the evening into early monday morning, which, o

kari hall is here with some gifts of her own.ood weather and no traffic. >> yes, looked really good as you get ready to head out, and we'll get some sunshine. we're starting out with cool temperatures as a cold front dips across the bay area, all because of that system that moved through yesterday especially during the evening hours that brought us some rain. now the cold air is rolling in. check out the seven-day forecast, it's already up at the bottom of the screen, as we get a look at how much rain we measured yesterday. you probably heard it, hitting the roof. or maybe you were out in it shopping. we had in san mateo a half inch of rain but the winner was in the santa cruz mountains, ben loman an inch of rain, a quarter inch in this san jose. danville an inch of rain and for san francisco, three-are the quaers of an inch of rain while santa rosa a half inch. now look at how cold it is in ukiah, with some mid-30s right now. also in santa rosa, now 38 degrees, while oakland is at 48. it is 51 in palo alto. you can see the cold

and meteorologist kari hall is tracking that. are we in the clear? >> for a little while. there won't be another rain-maker moving into the bay tomorrow. but, yeah, we were talking about the high waves along the coastline. if you are heading anywhere near the coast, there will be some dangerous waves for the next four days. and these waves are at a period of about 15 to 20 seconds. that means that if one of those waves comes up, it takes about 15 to 20 seconds for the next wave to come in. so that means if you get caught in one of those waves, it will drag you way out into the ocean. so never turn your back to the water and the best advice now is not to go swimming. if it's too rough for the professional surfers, you are not going to be any match for the high waves turning up today. in fact, the high surf warning continues until 9:00 this evening as those breakers may reach 20 to 30 feet. and the next system moving in will also bring in some breezy winds and some rain, mostly to the north bay. but also keep those coastal areas really dangerous with the high surf. here's a

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking it. is it going to stick around? >> it's going to stick around for a another couple hours and then clear up around the bay area. as you head out, we're seeing some fog in areas that don't always see it. here's a look at dublin where we're seeing patches of fog. visibility getting worse there. san jose, 101, everyone is driving there just fine but you may hit a pocket of fog that makes it hard to see. visibility in san jose now at about three-quarters of a mile and worse as you head down towards south county and also in the tri-valley. we'll have more on this. heads up for the south bay fog. >> like you said, we don't always report the south bay fog. our photographer, ian, is heading south. there are the lights for downtown. you see the glow. anywhere south of 280 our road weather index registers that fog. we'll show you what we mean on our maps. that's the yellow we show right here. patches for 87 and 85. the rest of the bay moves smoothly. back to you. >>> now to a story getting a lot of attention on social media th

kari hall, we need to track the radar this morning. >> this morning we're tracking some rain and it will move in later on this morning, possibly some thunderstorms today, so that may really slow you down on a very busy christmas eve. here is a look at only some spotty, light rain moving in. some of the heavier rain and a few heavy downpours moving through far northern california, so if you're traveling, heading up i-5 going north it will be wet and in the bay area, starting to see the rain moving in later on this morning into early afternoon. you see the waves of that red and yellow moving through, potentially some thunderstorms in time for the afternoon. i'll be tracking that as well as this activity comes through in several rounds as we go through today, and then winds down tonight. here is a look at san rafael, as we get a look at our traffic maps, and we are seeing everything flowing smoothly except for a few problem spots. not as many people out theren othe roads. it's good news if you have to work today, you don't have to deal with the usual traffic. i'll talk about the rain moving

right now, we start out with meteorologist kari hall. we'll get the weather this morning. >> it starts out wet, because we had the rain that moved through yesterdaye ed clearing weather as we get a chance to dry out. as you step out the door, let's look at the rain that continues to move away from the bay mobi doppler radar, that's the red scan there we're seeing of our truck parked on san bruno mountain, and still showing some light rain across parts of the north bay, while the south bay seeing some mostly cloudy skies. the roads are wet, and we will get some sunshine as we go throughout this afternoon. mike, you have more info on the crash in san jose. >> sorting out details just coming in here. the reason why we saw all the traffic jammed up, exactly as we said, judging by that live pattern, there was a crash northbound just north of here, for highway 101 through san jose. that means the backup that we saw on the map there from our camera, all the way up past alum rock avenue and over toward about taylor, there seems to be two crashes
