lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> all right, lauren, thanks very much. from surf to snow, five skiers are recovering from injuries suffered in a fall from a lift at heavenly mountain resort. the resort says at least three people. three of the people fell from the comet express chairlift this morning. the chair they were riding in slid backwards, striking the chair behind it. all three skiers were then tossed out of their chairs, falling about 30ft onto the snow. two people on the ground also suffered injuries. all five had to be taken to a hospital in reno to be treated. the holiday commute on highway 24 was stalled by a fire in the caldecott tunnel this morning. the chp says a minivan burst into flames after colliding with another vehicle inside the eastbound portion of the tunnel. this was just before 10:00. no injuries, thank goodness, but all eastbound lanes had to be closed temporarily. it was a bit of a mess. as you can see. all right. in a little less than three weeks, san francisco will have a new mayor. since november. since the election, mayor

in the south bay, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> new developments.land city leaders are laying out the timeline for replacing recalled mayor shang tao. she's the first mayor in oakland's history to be recalled by voters. the alameda county registrar of voters should certify election results tomorrow. about two weeks later, the city council will formally accept the results. then current city council president nikki fortunato bass will become interim mayor, but she just won the race for a seat on the alameda county board of supervisors. keep in mind. so next month, she's moving on in january. a new oakland city council will be sworn in, and they will pick a council president who will become the new interim mayor. a special mayoral election will not be held until mid april. the interim mayor will serve until the winner of the special election is sworn in. all of this unfolding as oakland faces a historic budget deficit. >> i also want to say very clearly that continuity and stability is critical during this time of transition. oakland's residents deserv

abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez shows you the impact on drivers and on folks living there. >> a mixture of mud and debris from an unstable hillside in saratoga is once again closing a stretch of highway nine. on monday, caltrans decided to close both directions from redwood gulch road to sanborn following the wet weekend weather. >> right now, what we're seeing is we're calling it soupy mud. it's very soupy. it's really hard for us to go out there and just get a bulldozer and scrape it up. we need to go in there, bring our crews in there to make sure we're able to clear out all that mud. >> caltrans will determine if it's safe to reopen the highway on wednesday. >> right now, we're just waiting to see. hopefully, everything can dry up. >> the same closure happened here last winter due to a mudslide. this hillside is an active project. caltrans crews have been working on since september to put in a new drainage system. >> also put in some new regrade the slope as well. just make sure that doesn't happen again. >> mountain charley road in the santa cruz mountains was c
