. >> i'm marcus washington. right now we want to get to meteorologist kari hall with a look at the forecast that we can expect today. talk about what is behind you there. >> this is the last image captured in the santa cruz mountains shortly before midnight before flames overtook this camera. we know this fire is spreading rapidly across the santa cruz mountains, as well as the rest of the bay area as we've seen some very warm weather. let's take you to the north bay. several fires burning here and temperatures this morning mostly in the 70s. the humidity is coming up just a little bit but look at the gamble fire. humidity levels only at 21%. very dry. so that causes those fires to spread more quickly. as we head to the santa cruz mountains, we had a lot of smoke coming into the south bay and our current conditions, our temperatures in the upper 70s. early in the morning, we haven't seen a good recovery here where we look for lower temperatures and lower humidity, as well. as we look at what is going on jose, ea

i'm marcus washington. let's get straight to those latest developments for you. lnu complex fire burning up in wine country has consumed more than 350,000 acres. now, some good news coming out of there, it is 27% contained. but, sadly, five deaths associated with the fire have been confirmed. that fire also destroying 930 structures. meanwhile, the scu complex fire burning in the east and south bays is the largest fire bniin . it is the second largest in state history, and it's covering 363,000 acres. and it is only 15% contained. 20,000 structures are threatened by those flames. and the czu fire is burning in the woods of san mateo and santa cruz county. now we brought you a live update on that fire on "today in the bay" this morning. it has burned 78,000 acres and is now 17% contained. seven people are still missing. 330 structures are destroyed. >>> now officials are holding a news conference about the lnu fire. let's listen in. >> specifically for this it's 707-967-4207. now i'd like to invite up our operations sections chief chris waters for an update. >> go

i'm marcus washington and we weren't to get you caught up on the news. the fires and protests happening overnight in oakland and wisconsin. first, we have team coverage for you on hurricane laura. meteorologist kari hall tracking that storm but want to go to nbc bay area's chris pollone live for us in lafayette, louisiana. >> reporter: yeah. hey there, marcus. you know, the worst of this storm is long gone in lafayette. even still as laura approaches arkansas right now, we are still getting strong possibly up to tropical storm wind gusts even though the rain has ended. still very, very windy here, just to show you how large the storm is. you mentioned people getting up in daylight, going to assess the damage. many people in this state had a very terrifying night. >> laura slammed ashore early hours of thursday slamming louisiana and texas coast, a storm surge the national hurricane center called unsurvivable and 150-mile-per-hour winds, a powerful category 4 hurricane. at least one person now confirmed dead. >> the whole valero gas station roof, you see

"today in the bay's" cierra johnson joins us live from vacaville right now where the fires took off and so did the people. many forced to evacuate. >> reporter: good morning. exactly. behind me you can't see the flames as brightly as you have been able to in the last hour but the fire still burning out here. we have seen folks on the side of the road man to dev moving a burning quickly. we have had a photographer on the scene overnight gathering that video and getting the stories and spoke with folks burned trying to escape the fire and heard people gathering the belongings, taking photographs of the inside and outside and belongings to document what they have in case there is any damage from this fire. it is important to note that this all stems from the lightning that we had a couple days ago, that lightning struck some very dry brush creating this fire and that's where we are right now. take a listen to someone working to escape t

. >> i'm marcus washington. want to get you caught up on breaking news. the 3.9 magnitude quake striking in cobb just south of clearlake. you can see the glitch there or the jolt on there on the seismograph happened about 4:45 this morning. of course we will have more of that coming up. kari hall is monitoring that kind of givering us the shake intensity of that, there were people who felt it al these blue dots show the reports this area and very seismic region. we know that. typically very small that you don't feel them but the fact to see that all across the north bay, something to note here as we continue to monitor for anymore reports of anymore shaking. as we head down to the south ba. we are going to have a nice day before our temperatures heath up and will head into the low to mid-80s by this afternoon. talk about this and high heat coming up. mike, how does it look for the morning drive? >> looks like i have a new crash over my shoulder on the map. just popped up in concord. i'll check out that. there's slowing for northbound 880 up toward 23rd. t

i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we'll get to that morning commute and roads to avoid in a moment. first, let's check in with kari. these big wildfires started by lightning, and now that threat is back? >>> yes. it's very unusual to have lightning storms in the bay area during the month of august and here we are for the third time this month talking about lightning. so far we haven't seen any lightning strikes and this radar can detect it as it happens and places a lightning icon on the map there. we're seeing a lot of that over the central valley and the sierra. we have the best case scenario with a little bit of rain and no lightning so far. so hopefully that holds up. we do still have that chance as we're seeing some rain in parts of the north bay, some light showers -- not enough to put out the fires, but it will help get a little bit of keeping it from spreading so quickly. we'll be watching that as we are going into today. mike, how is it looking right now for the commute? >>> no complaints here, kari. we'll ta

"today in the bay's" cierra johnson live in vacaville this morning where homes are destroyed and hundreds vautded and people injured trying to leave the home. >> reporter: exactly. if you're just waking up with us i'm sure you can smell the smoke where you are. we are at cherry glen and pleasant valley intersection here in vacaville. the fire seems to have shifted so we don't have the same vantage point adds we did earlier but in the last hour it was glowinger and you could see the orange and coming in from the city on 80 east you could see that glow from the freeway and also smell that smoke. this m

. >> i'm marcus washington. mike is keeping an eye on that commute and, first, start out with that forecast. meteorologist kari hall has been talking and we have been tracking the creep up in the temperatures and today may be the last day we may get a little relief. >> well, today is where we're going to start to feel those temperatures going up. let's head over to the trivalley and pleasanton. we start off this morning with a nice, comfortable start to the day with low 60s, but you can see how fast these temperatures climb. by 1:00, we're at 95 degrees here. in fact, some spots will reach over 100 degrees this afternoon. and then by this evening, the humidity starts to go up. so, our temperatures won't drop that much tonight. we'll talk more about this and where we have the heat advisory that will be in down for a lot y area>> that's right, kari. in fact, a couple issues for folks driving out of the east bay. let's start with the bay bridge. that's the big one kari is talking about. look at the span from our em
