. >> matt keller talked to the highway patrol and has more on the investigation. >> reporter: it's antimes has drivers asking the question, where's a police officer when you need one? just ahead of this pack of 50 or so motorcyclists was exactly that, a lone chp officer. chp says this two-minute video was just a snippet of a ten to 12-minute ordeal on southbound 680 on the afternoon of saturday, october 11th. the video shows the motorcyclists speeding, doing wheelies and standing on their seats. the chp says the unidentified officer tried to pull several of them over when he was approached by one of the motorcyclists who waved his hands in a shooing motion. some words were exchanged. >> the officers told him to slow down, to stop driving recklessly. he was making statements about the safety and the illegal aspect of the way they were driving. >> reporter: after the high speed talk, they sped off. the chp says the officer pulled on to the shoulder and waited for backup. the group eventually got off at the mckey road exit in san jose. no one was arrested or cited. guru stunts posted th

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in santa cruz with more on today's event. matt? >> reporter: katie, it's been 25 years, but this part of downtown santa cruz has yet to be rebuilt. it's the only lot in downtown santa cruz that remains empty. it was the santa cruz coffee roasting company. two people died here. now there are plans to mix retail and residential units. downtown santa cruz was devastated by the 15 seconds of shaking. the epicenter was ten miles northeast of santa cruz. heavy damage to the unre-enforced masonry buildings through the downtown area. here's an interview with a man that october and what he experienced. well, millions of people across california, including in san francisco and san jose, took part in the great california shakeout yesterday, a reminder we live in earthquake country and preparation is key. later this morning here at memorial plaza at the corner of front street and pacific avenue, a 25th anniversary commemoration of the loma prieta quake will be held here. they'll talk about the tragedy and the recovery and how santa cruz is pre

matt keller asked why it took so long to issue an alert about the dangerous bacteria. >> reporter: why would the water company wait 48 to 72 hours to notify people when you had a positive test? >> so again, the protocol on the water utility industry is that we don't issue a boil water notice after one result. when we get a positive result, what we will do is conduct another round of sampling to confirm that that result was in fact positive. >> reporter: there need to be something set in place so people can find out when their water is contaminated. this is negligence on their part. >> boil water notices went to 300 homes and businesses. san jose water company says it knows of three people who have had e. coli symptoms. the contamination comes after a new water main was installed on piedmont road. >>> now on to the world series and game two between the giants and royals is coming up in about an hour in kansas city. the giants are going to start jake peevey going up against royals rookie ventura. peevey was acquired by the giants midseason from the red sox and has been calling up some fo
