you may be asking why should i trade options and when and how professor mike khouw has answers.way >> yeah, so one of the things that we often talk about on this is that options can be used to either risk less or make more. and i think sometimes there's a perception that people don't really understand how it is that you might risk less. there's a couple ways that you can. here's one of them for one thing, you can invest less capital to make a directional investment so if you're trying to be long a stock or short a stock, you can put less capital at risk if you want to do that. there's another thing you can do, that is depending on the trade structure, you can improve the probability that the trade will be profitable you can make it so you have more than a 50/50 chance. the one thing that's really important, though, for investors when they start to do this, is just make sure that you size your trade appropriately so i was going to compare three different ways to play an investment thesis in microsoft that compares to different options structures to actually going out and buying t

people are going to say that i'm copying mike here. but the strategy i'm looking to use is really a strategy i think is very underutilized by many equity investors, which is selling a cash secured put to acquire a stock that you like at a particular discount. so the strategy i'm looking here is to go out to july i'm looking at the july 31st, 118 puts i can collect about $2.83. now as mike said, we usually target about a 1% discount on these cash secured puts to purchase the stock but here i'm collecting almost 3% here. and my break-even price here is about 11517 at about 4 to 5% below the current price of the stock price. >> mike, i will go to you so you can comment on whether or not you think tony's copying you but i really think this has to do where the markets are and where volatility is right now. >> i think that's right. we have a situation where it's another stable stock, and it's another situation where options, premiums are elevated. it's another situation where the revenue situation for the company is relatively stable those a

mike, what's the trade here? >> no, no, that's it >> yeah, so this is an interesting situation, right, because as carter was just mentioning there has long been this sense that the bull market and bonds was going to come to an end, that eventually excessive borrowing was going to lead to heyigher rates. all of that presumes there isn't an incremental buyer for fixed income we now know that's not the case. a big portion of treasury issuance, for example, is being picked up and put on the fed's balance sheet. so essentially the longer rates can be controlled for as long as that remains true. besides all of that, of course we have an economic backdrop that is otherwise going to be deflationa deflationary this is a circumstance where we wouldn't expect to see longer term rates go a whole lot higher anyway so while i probably have been among those that thought that rates were going to go higher if you took -- you know, look back about 24 months, i think this situation is quite different now. i think the way to play th

as you know, mike, we talked about boeing forever now and i've owned boeing for a while. it is down 40% so it still smarts every time i look at the name but i think that the bond deal that they did i think was a very, very good sign it was two times oversubscribed and that suggests that people believe in the long-term duopoly that they have with airbus so you have that then the restart of the 737 max. and that to me is positive we have to get recertification, i get that it's going to come in the next couple of months, and then your questioning on boeing is then what can they generate free cash flowwise there are very bullish numbers at $18 to $20 a share the next couple of years. i really don't know. i think we have to see the timing of when they get this plane back up and the health of the airlines and whether they can afford these planes but that's the way you want to go if you want to be a longer term investor on the airlines. >> jon, you teased earlier you might have some movers in the options market see if we can get any of those in right here before jay powell start

mike is keeping an eye on the commute. first, we want to start out with meteorologist kari hall who is taking a look at those danger zones we have throughout the bay area because of the red flag warning. kari? >>> yes, in the north bay mountains we'll have a red flag warning in effect for today. it continues until 8:00 this evening, and with the very dry conditions we've seen, along with the high winds, we will have that high fire danger for today for all of these areas that are shaded in red. so these are the areas we'll have to watch as the winds possibly gust over 50 miles an hour once again for today. we will start out with those temperatures very mild, but then it will warm up in some parts of the bay area. a few of us will hit back up to 90 degrees for those high temperatures while the south bay will be in the low 80s. we'll talk about the range in temperatures and what's ahead coming up in the full microclimate forecast. mike, you've been watching the roads. any issues early this morning? >>> the freeways are moving
