i'm reggie aqui. >> i'm natasha zouves. we have mike nicco, tracking storms through thursday. alexis smith, we'll start with highway 17 but there is a lot going on. >> there is. we have a full closure of highway 17. this is in the santa cruz mountains. we'll head down there on my traffic maps. see the purple. the northbound side of the road is blocked. there was a mudslide just after 3:00 this morning. it also brought down a large tree and power lines. one vehicle involved, as well. we have a full closure of that northbound side. the southbound side, they were able to get a couple lanes back open. that is likely a sig alert for the rest of the morning. bay bridge toll plaza filling in at this point.

. >> and i'm natasha zouves. they're trying to find the man in his 30s. matt keller is live there. matt? >> reporter: natasha, i just spoke with the coast guard and they say today is great weather for their search. you could see one of the boats out here on the bay. they say there are calm seas, light winds and unlimited visibility. they've also sent up a coast guard helicopter. their hope, somehow this man survived the night. here is the latest video of the fremont fire department launching into the bay near the bridge. six boats from fremont, san jose and menlo park fire department and the coast guard are searching for a san jose resident kenneth maldonado, missing since late yesterday afternoon after his kayak took on water and the kayak over turned with the flotation device still inside. he hasn't been seen since. searchers are breaking up the bay into a grid and doing a slow methodical search. >> launching this morning is the best time to go out and spend the day trying to canvass this search. but at some point this weather, darkness and also the changing tide will dictate how

i'm reggie aqui. >> i'm natasha zouves.have meteorologist mike nicco here. >> good morning. >> and it seems like maybe friday the 13th has changed our b.a.r.t. issue, right? >> we've had a scary commute so far this morning but we are starting to improve. the latest with our commuter alert with b.a.r.t. is that we've got the disabled maintenance vehicle that was stuck on the tracks between macarthur and 19th street stations removed so that is out of there and that was the major problem, trains could not bypass that so everyone trying to get from the east bay into san francisco and vice versa weren't able to do that but about, oh, i'd say, five, six, minutes ago they reported that trains are moving through oakland once again. just checked. we first heard about this problem about 4:40 so we're talking about 40 minutes that we had trains basically stopped getting through that area. so we still have major delays and that means over 20 minutes for now. we have a lot of fog out there this morning. let's check in with meteorologist

. >> i'm natasha zouves. kristen will be in later today. this happened only in a second and we are so thankful that our photographer, a member of our morning team, was released from the hospital and is at home recovering. a sig-alert continues on highway 17 now and that is where we find abc 7 news reporter david louie. david? >> reporter: natasha and reggie, you could see what a large landslide this was. both lanes of northbound 17 are closed as a result of this rock, debris vegetation, trees, you name it, it is all here now in the two northbound lanes of highway 17. can you imagine that news van getting slammed by all of that rock? and as a result of that, that came just hours before the beginning of the morning commute. people coming from santa cruz going up toward san jose. nobody knows exactly what has caused this but of course we know it is all weather-related with the all of the rain over the weekend and it is starting to rain again right now so there is very gig concerns about the stability of this hillside. we have chp officer jeff

i'm natasha zouves. >> and i'm kristen zse. the man whose car plunged into a raging creek managed to break out of the sinking car and swim to safety. but officials are now urging extreme caution on the road in the fremont area after the second incident in one week. matt keller is live with the story. >> reporter: i talked to a chp spokesperson about an hour ago and he can't remember the last time a car went into the alameda creek and now it has happened twice in less than a week. alameda creek is still roaring through niles canyon. even though the rain has stopped. around 5:00 this morning, a 27-year-old man from patterson was driving to work on niles canyon road in his gold chevy cruz when he fell asleep at the wheel. >> when he woke up half way through a turn and overcorrected and ended up in the creek. >> he was able to break through his already damaged windshield. >> when he swam to shore, he received cuts from rocks. >> someone called 911 and good samaritans stopped to help him until emergency crews arrived at the scene. h
