i'm reed cowan. we've just learned the names of six of the seven people who died in the half moon bay mass shooting. here are their names. 73-year-old from san francisco. 66-year-old of half moon bay. moss beach. 74-year-old from san francisco. 44-year-old. the coroner's office says they will release the name of the seven victim once the suspect -- victim has been notified. the suspect did not enter a plea during hers first court appearance 90 minutes ago. there he is behind the glass with his head down. he will be in this same position in court february 16th. he is held without the option of bail until that date. he is charged with seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. those charges include enhancements. one for multiple murder. he could face either the death penalty or life without parole if convicted on all charges. san mateo county da steve wagstaff said this is the deadliest attack in the county history. >> this one is in a category way beyond anything we've ever

i am reed cowan. governor gavin newsom is in half moon bay right now after seven people were killed and at two agricultural businesses there. ryan yamamoto is live with the very latest and what is the mood there? >> reporter: as you can imagine, the mood is very sad and this is a community in morning. a lot of questions. out to the portuguese center here at half moon bay. we are now awaiting the arrival of governor gavin newsom who landed here in half moon bay at around 2:00 , meeting with first responders and members of the families victims. here is what we know so far. as you mentioned, seven people were shot and killed. five men, two women. another shooting victim is now being treated at stanford medical center. that suspect, chunli zhao, will be charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder. we are told that he used to work at one of farms an also used work at another mushroom farm. investigators are calling this a case of workplace violence. let me give you an id

i am reed cowan. our asian-american community has been deeply impacted by recent deadly shootings in half moon bay and southern california, as well. today, we want to have a conversation about how you, at home, are coping and how people affected are coping. the suspect is reportedly said, i did it. he has confessed to the killings. chunli zhao has been charged with seven counts of murder, accused of killing five men and two women. all of them asian or mexican immigrants. in a jailhouse interview, the suspect said that he was not in his right mind when he opened fire. he also reportedly said he had been bullied at work, made to work long hours on the phone, and that his complaints had largely been ignored. a spokesperson for the farm says the farm has no knowledge of any complaints of bullying. we've also dug back and found that in 2013, a coworker of the suspect, ask that the time for a restraining order against him and got it. the coworker claimed he tried to suffocate him with a pillow atenima knife

i am reed cowan. we know that you are dealing with the effects from the storms. cleanup. bay, that's a mudslide. anne makovec is here with how all of us got stuck. >> thankfully, nobody got hurt. but it is a huge mess. you can see they are still working to clean it up in alameda county. the train was traveling to fremont this morning along the swollen alameda creek, next to highway 84. at around 8:45, the train got hit by mud and debris and slid down the hillside. the train was not seriously damaged and it did not derail. it was stuck about 220 passengers on board. ace had to bring in a second trying to take them back to the pleasanton station. they finally got there at around 1:00 p.m. a viewer sent photos from inside the train. on his way to his job at apple when the hillside slammed into the side of the train. we talked to several passengers. this it was jarring, as you could imagine, but they kept their cool. >> they responded really well. they were very well trained, you know. for the most part, no one really panicked. >> crews are still cleaning up this mudslide. ou

. >> i'm reed cowan in for sara donchey. so tonight, we know many of you are knee deep from the cleanup from the monstrous storm. this is in the santa cruz county coastline area. the city of capitola undersiege from the surge pounding against the build ings. the churning sea was very serious. somebody thocean.t rf lan out there e b mebune. this what is left behind of the pier. an entire section of it just chomped and gone. near santa cruz, main beach, the fast moving storm surge rushed over the sand bars and really threatened to swamp the buildings. and then, we can tell you an iconic piece of california history destroyed. the famous cement ship. it sat at sea cliff state beach over 100 years but it lost its battle against the storm. the ss palo alto was broken and driven further apart from the pier. such a sad loss. once it had a dance floor, a swimming pool, and a cafe. it is now lost to time. the pier no match for the storm. a large section of it fell into the ocean. you see the force of the water. and those are the bench

. >> good evening everybody, i'm reed cowan in for sara donchey. a powerful atmospheric river is barreling toward the bay area. it is expected to hit tomorrow afternoon and we know a lot of you are scrambling to fill up sandbags and prepare the damage from the last round of damage. we are bringing in paul heggen with first alert weather. what are we expecting? >> we are expecting two rounds of rain. the first of which arrives in the morning. that will not be as intense as what arrive ins the afternoon. take a look at the hour by hour rain chances. it will rain on the morning commute. be prepared and things will be sloppy on the roads. if you have the option to work from home, exercise that option. a little break in the action from late morning into early afternoon. scattered showers and another wave of more widespread and heavier rain accompanied by gustier winds. both ends of the commutes will be a mess. this is a level three on the one to five scale. it is a moderate strength atmospheric river overall. but that brings both term drought perspectiv

i'm reed cowan . we know it is another first alert weather day. not hard to see why . parts of the bay getting rain. others dealing with messes from flooding and powerful winds. let's take you live outside. gloomy skies, rain in some spots. we understand the storm is not done yet. >> not done with us quite yet. we have some flood warnings and flood advisories that continue. the flood warnings continue until 4:45. that is for parts of the north bay and in the and parts of the east bay. a flood advisory in the solano county goes until 10:00 p.m. let's take a look at first alert doppler . it is not as widespread, not as heavy as we had this morning but there are more showers making their way into the northbay. some pockets of heavier rain between santa rosa and rohnert park . a few pockets of slightly heavier rain for far western portions of contra costa county right over richmond. this activity is sliding toward the east. some showers in the diablo range in the santa cruz mountains just adding more moisture to soil that is already saturated. you can see this band of rain

. >> i'm reed cowan. >> we had a brief break from the storm today, but get ready for things to ramp up again. >> people across the bay area, we know you're bracing for a chance of more flooding. in fact, soils are so saturated it's taken hours to clear the slides from major roadways. waterways around our bay area and beyond are already swollen, but the latest round of rain pushed things over the edge flooding a lot of neighborhoods, some of the most dramatic impacts of the storm up in gilroy where a stretch of highway 101 turned into a rushing river. caltrans crews have been pumping water out clearing the drains on both sides of the highway that reopened at about 6:00. >> outside of the bay area the santa barbara area seems to be getting the worst of the storm. people are trying to cross the street with rushing water, basically the entire town under an evacuation order tonight with some areas ordered to shelter in place. more than 34 million californians were under a flood watch at some point today. that's about 90% of the state's population. >>> because of that tonight, president bide
