there's a fire at the richmond refinery, there were sirens immediately, the city of richmond has calledor a shelter in place for the entire city of richmond. no doubt firefighters from surrounding communities are on this as well. chevron has its own fire department. the rodeo fire department has called for morning some place. >> we're being told the court has closed the richmond station. as far as we know this is the only station that is closed. the richmond station. >> we are waiting to hear from someone from chevron as to specifically what this is. dave is a former worker on an oil tanker. and has had some degree of knowledge with refineries, and what we have spoken of in the past few moments is that one of these fires is much larger than the other. possibly that second fire is actually burning off gas which is something that the refinery does. they set these flares and they burn off gases within the system. we're really not sure as to the degree of fire from what we're seeing in both of these flames. but it would be nice if we could hear from a voice of authority out of chevron. >> a

now it is shifting and in richmond where city officials are trying to find some answers, good morning, allie. >> reporter: this is now the sight of a large scale investigation to chevron's richmond refinery. we are seeing a lot of cars and workers driving in heading to work just as they normally wood, investigators are still on the internal team searching for the cause, it started around 6:30 yesterday. residents reported hearing a boom in the area and then you can see flames coming from the refineries stacked and those flames ended up releasing a giant plume of smoke eastward and that triggered a warning. it refines diesel fuel in refinery number 4 ran they found a leak before the fire started. well the main fire has been extinguished and they are still doing some work to get am problem completely resolved. >> right now there is a very small controlled burn which ensuring more hydro carbons are not released and this is ensuring it continues to be maintained under control. >> reporter: now while the controlled burn takes place in refinery 4, it is completely shut down but other units
