this morning south bay-silicon valley commute, you may say why is it so slow? because of earlier issues that have been now cleared out. >>> let's get to it, heaviest rain to the south though it is moving through right now. the upper low, which went to the west and then picked up a lot of moisture is now rotating back in. if you saw that yesterday, we had sunshine for a while and that they came up in the south and started to move back to the west. hollister an inch and a half. watsonville, morgan hill, all a half inch to two thirds. hamilton just a half inch. redwood city also just a third of an inch of rain. san francisco 2/10, oakland .18. but that is nothing. the heaviest rain will be to the south, far less to the north. and then, the sunday system which will linger friday and saturday will be heavier to the north. maybe some of 3-4 inch amounts. that is friday night into saturday. today, all about the south bay and east day bay and so much more into the morning. it has already decreased for some to the north. you are just too far away from the parent low. you

saint helena, likely after 6:00, and down to the south, dry in the east bay peninsula and south bay. we'll likely see some of this moving your way as we head through the next several hours tonight. so, as we bring you into the future cast, it really looks to be like the north bay would have the best chance through 8:30 at night. some of that moving toward the peninsula and east bay. and we can't rule out some of that wet weather, of course, down there through the south bay. as we head into tomorrow morning's commute, we're going to continue to keep this chance here of scattered rain in the forecast at 8:00. and we'll hold onto a similar scenario as we head through tomorrow evening as well. it's not a major storm system, but enough here that if you're going from one place to the other, you'll need those windshield wipers for a little bit and the umbrella as we mentioned. temperatures are going to tart o start off on the cool side. you see the estimated rain from a quarter to a third of an inch in the north bay and much less off to the south. let's get you ready for the morning commute

if you're in the south bay, you're getting pounded. the northbay, revisit this quickly, another wave of showers begins to move in from inverness along 101. it will move south. livermore almost the bull's-eye of the action moving through, san jose will get moderate to pretty good rainfall, even the peninsula gets a break, that moving through the santa cruz mountains, they could pick up another inch of rain before midnight tonight. here are the totals so far, we will add to this because a lot coming down in the south bay into fremont, quarter of an in san jose. ain view and .014 livermore1/5 inches. santa rosa 1.8 inches and napa with half an inch, that is at the airport, downtown could have got more. flood watch is posted through 10:00 tonight. we have not heard reports of landslides, that is the concern and in general, the rain easing up, low pressure twisting up mendocino is sending the brunt of the rain to the south bay, followed by unstable air which will add to ring totals between now and tomorrow night at this time. another half-in

bay area it's winter. it is out there and goes north and south deading on where the jet stream is. or pineapple acaexpress, the lo line of clouds from hawaii to the bay area. we call it the pineapple express, a narrow band of some rain as well as usually high wind that follows the jet stream and it's right over the bay area producing that rain. and so while we get rain, we know that we also see snow in the sierra and the fact the atmospheric river is basically only about 200 to 400 miles wide but can extend out about 1,000 miles and for us it brings us about 30% to 40 50% of our year rainfall. unfortunately climate change has warmed the temperatures within the atmospheric river and causing most of our precipitation to fall as rain. that means less sierra snowpack, less water storage for the bay area and that's something we'll continue to monitor but the last one, its first one of the season, but the one we just had actually brought in decent amount of snowfall for the sierra. i'll be tracking that and we'll also talk about what's happening in our seven-day forecast, that's coming u
