south down towards big sur and santa cruz. so the heavier rain that we saw this morning. in marin county in this afternoon that's shifting south into the monterey san benito county area, so heavy rainfall expected there overnight. we're going to see more heavy rainfall or consistent rainfall at times tonight through tomorrow morning, it will be wet morning commute. it will be a wet afternoon commute, and we're going to be kind of. running around with umbrellas and wipers on through the bulk of this week and potentially into the following week. the patterns are looking pretty favorable for a kind of a wet continuance. but in the meantime, you got to do it tomorrow to deal with which will be wet in the morning went in the afternoon, the heaviest rain was falling in marin county . they're getting a break now, but there's another way that's going to move through there in the next few hours. you've got rain showers now heading south down into monterey heaviest rainfall rates i've seen around a quarter of an inch, so it's not hammering urban and small stream flooded vise. ary kind of rainfall

heavier poekt -- pockets of rain in the south county.it is going to be a cool day in the mid to upper 50s this afternoon. it will be very chilly tonight with freezing temperatures in some spots. never leave your pets outside, especially in these wet and cold conditions. also check your car tire pressure, because that may go down with cool temperatures. we're going to have a dry weekend, chilly temperatures. we talked about frost and freezing conditions. this is ahead of the next atmospheric river coming in. it could be the biggest storm we have since october when we had all of that rain. this is what we know right now. the timing is from sunday into tuesday. we are going to see the possibility of some of that really heavy rain moving in. once again, as we go through the forecast, the timing is from tuesday to wednesday that we could see this lingering into the weekend. looking at the rainfall totals that could reach from 3-4 inches farther to the north. we usually get less rainfall in the valleys as well as some heavy sierra snow on the

the potential of some freezing temperatures especially in the north bay valleys as well as the south county and that may create some icy roadways for the morning commute. then going into tomorrow we'll see our temperatures heading back toward the low to mid 50s once again as the polar air just spills down into the bay area as well as across the region. it is going to linger even into next week as the next storm system moves in. that is the reason we expect a lot of snow in the sierra. with the cold weather especially working outside make sure you dress in layers, wear a hat. the plants you set out there for a little water bring them in if you want to protect them in this cold weather. do not leave pets outside with the temperatures dropping into the 30s. your tire light may come on because of the cold temperatures. >>> once again our next stormor the beginning of next week. it is gor most of the event. so this is what we know. the timing is from sunday to tuesday, looking up to 4 inches of rain and winds about 20 to 40 miles per hour. some of the valleys may get much less rain but where we

for san josÉ we have light rain that will be picking up for the south county once again as the santacruz mountains becomes the focus of the next round of heavy rain. we are also expecting the chance of some thunderstorms by late this afternoon. we are looking at the potential of gusting winds and small hail and pockets of heavy rain as this next line of really intense downpours will start to move in as we go into today. we are going to be tracking that. talking about all of the impacts we are expecting with the storm coming up in a few minutes. >>> mike, does that continue for fremont? >> yeah, we have two lanes blocked around the vargas on-ramp where a big rig crossed the freeway and went into the center divide. the south bay side already showing a slowdown early as folks come out of the dublin interchange area. more slowing for the dublin grade and 580. i will see what is happening to the speed sensors. the rest of the bay shows a move drive but slick conditions. we still have one lane blocked north of the high street off-ramp. you see the flashing lights. the southbound side is di

mud reservoir, 74% capacity, but we are seeing very low levels for the south bay reservoirs, the south countys across the state. we're in about 51.6% of the historical average looking at all of our biggest reservoirs across the state. of course the drought continues after that record october rain. then we have a quick-moving system moving in late this afternoon. all attention will turn to an atmospheric river moving in on sunday and it could linger on tuesday, as well. it could be slower than original thought, and we will see how that affects our rain totals. as of what we know right now, it moves in sunday afternoon into monday, and rainfall totals would be from three quarters to an inch of rain to some of the valleys, and maybe over three inches of rain to 20 to 30 miles per hour. we talk about spots like san josÉ and livermore, rain shadowed valleys, and flooding could come for some of the small streams along with clogged street drains because of the leaves coming off of the trees. for sierra, about two to four feet of snow. and then two to four inches of rain for the santa cruz mountains,

over an hour left of fall and our temperatures feel like it's in the mid-30s right now in the south county. take a look at morgan hill in dublin. the coldest temperatures on the map, 35 degrees and on this last day of winter, we call it astronomical winter because it's caused by the waves, and the sun is shining to the earth and the way the sun is tilted away from the earth. this is the shortest day of the year. the sun is directly over the tropic of capricorn. so from this point forward our days will gradually get longer after today. we are looking forward to that and rain that's in the forecast that will start later this afternoon and into the evening. we have a couple systems in the works. we can see this swirl of clouds, all the clouds that are drawing in that tropical moisture and that's why we call it the atmospheric river or "pineapple express." we will see several rounds of rain coming in and gusty winds at time, and in the afternoon into the evening and that will continue into wednesday, thursday and friday and christmas day and sunday and monday, too. as we take a look at our 7-d
