doug? >> yeah, guys. take a look right now in downtown new orleans along the mississippi river, just now the winds started to pick up, gusting 30 to 35 miles per hour and we're just getting started right now. take a look around me, right along the river front and you can see the trees blowing in the wind a little bit with this rain that ahas now moved through and we are firmly entrenched in what is most likely going to be the last little area of dry air and now fully entrenched in that rain right now through the next couple of hours and probably through the night tonight and most likely through the day on thursday. this is going to be a very long duration storm and a lot of rain and a lot of wind. let's take a look at the rain right now. you can see it on the radar. here's what we are thinking as we make our way through the next couple of days. with that rain moving around, let's take a look at radar. if we can take a look at the radar, please, i know what you see on there. there's the temperatures. i don

that's where doug kammerer is. you talk about blinding rains, we have the blinding rains, switched that a couple times, just to help. but winds gusting upwards of 30, 40 miles an hour across the region. we're right along the mississippi. take a look at the mississippi river, you can see a very angry mississippi river. this storm is now located just 60 miles off to our west. once again a very, very big storm. look at the -- into western portions. still bringing, and here's the peak wind gusts. in new orleans, 74 miles an hour, down to the south and west, right where the eye went over. i also heard a report of 101. and i believe it's 9.64. and and up towards slidell. so they continue to see the rain. it's no longer really a storm surge problem. we've seen a big-time surge into, but now it will be an inland flooding problem with 12, 24, even 36 more hours of rain to go here. this is a very, very slow-moving system. today they're out of the southeast, showing you this storm is in fact moving out of the southwest right

doug? >> reporter: yeah, i've got to till you, wendy, watching the latest on isaac, this story is il-defined, still cannot find a definite center, so the newest -- the latest advisory, no longer brings it to a hurricane before it makes landfall in towards portions of hispaniola. we will watch this storm closely. taking a look at what's going on right now, just to the south of perta puerto rico. really typical thunderstorms for them. tropical storms, with a lot of rain. no big deal, this storm will make its way toward the west-northwest, currently moving at about 14, 15 miles per hour. it will move very close to cuba, then close to the southeast united states, the longer we go, the more and more this tracks to the west. i'm getting less and less concerned with south florida. tampa may still be hit by this, but i think it will be indirectly hit by this. but i'm now focusing on the gulf coast states, including new orleans and places like mobile, alabama. we'll be watching it closely. 85 degree

meteorologist doug camera is in new orleans right now with latest on the situation there. doug? >> yeah, right now, guys, walking down canal street at the corner of canal and bourbon street. see bourbon street above me. the trees behind bourbon trees, the sign right there, not really blowing all that much. here we are seeing wind of 20 to 30 miles an hour. in the heart of the city. in other areas, completely different story. at the airport, 67-mile-an-hour win gu wind gusts. to the south, 80 miles an hour. the storm off the coast right now. made landfall. it is back over the open waters of the gulf of mexico. it will make a landfall overnight tonight and into the day tomorrow. take a look at some of the videos. one of the heavier band came through earlier. out shooting video earlier. saw a couple trees down. we saw a lot of wind. talking wind upward of 60, to 50 to 60 miles an hour in parts of the area. take a look at the video you. can see the wind howling. across parts of the region. what we will see. wind will buffer the region. the rains will continue here as well. take a lo

storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer has more on its projected path. doug? >> reporter: brand new information coming in from the hurricane center. isaac has not intensified as of the latest advisory, but looking at some of the latest data, it looks like it is trying to undergo some intensification. we will know this as early as tomorrow morning. as of 11:00, winds at 45 miles an hour, moving to the west at 20 miles an hour, and on that path, it will still go south of puerto rico. biggest impacts there are going to be rain and some winds, but not big impact for puerto rico. the biggest impact will be toward hispanola and even haiti. potential for 20 inches of rain. it is expected to be a hurricane by that time and make its way across to cuba potentially, and then very close, the east coast of florida and the gulf of mexico. but the middle of that cone right over south florida and the tampa region. i'll let you know what i think this storm will do, and we'll talk about the next couple days in our area. >> thanks, doug. >>> tomorrow marks one year since this ar

doug, thank you very much. don, likewise. we have been telling you about the breaking news coming in to cnbc. apple stock much higher after winning a massive patent infringement lawsuit against samsung. cnbc's jon fortt was in the courtroom in san jose as the verdict was brought, read and so forth. let's go to jon. good evening. what can you tell us? >> good evening, larry. it's not a total victory for apple. but it is close. the jury says apple is due more than a billion dollars in damages for multiple violations where samsung copied apple's designs of hardware and software. there are some exceptions. the jury found that the ipad design is not completely protectable by apple legally. but in phones, across much of samsung's line of phones as of just a year ago, violations have been found and this is on the higher end in terms of damages that have ever been awarded in history. this will be appealed. samsung was already talking about getting their papers ready to get filed on appeal. we saw it with oracle sap a few months ago.

doug, this is a tough order for mitt romney. 's not that things are great or anywhere where they need to be, but they're getting a little bit better and the polls seem to be getting a little bit worse when you look at it from mitt romney's perspective. >> well, i think the key is that today's report might have looked good for the topline jobs number, but if you dig inside it, we did see another 150,000 people give up looking for jobs entirely. we did see more people get unemployed. and for those who had jobs, we saw hours of work flat and weekly earnings of production workers actually fall. so the important thing to remember is that the majority of americans have jobs. and for them, the key is income growth, a better standard of living. we haven't seen that in this recovery. disposable incomes grow very slowly. and today's report is another report like that. >> jim, when doug raises that point, it brings me to you, your book, "the betrayal of the american dream." the lack of income growth, yes, more people are employed than aren
