that's where doug kammerer is. you talk about blinding rains, we have the blinding rains, switched that a couple times, just to help. but winds gusting upwards of 30, 40 miles an hour across the region. we're right along the mississippi. take a look at the mississippi river, you can see a very angry mississippi river. this storm is now located just 60 miles off to our west. once again a very, very big storm. look at the -- into western portions. still bringing, and here's the peak wind gusts. in new orleans, 74 miles an hour, down to the south and west, right where the eye went over. i also heard a report of 101. and i believe it's 9.64. and and up towards slidell. so they continue to see the rain. it's no longer really a storm surge problem. we've seen a big-time surge into, but now it will be an inland flooding problem with 12, 24, even 36 more hours of rain to go here. this is a very, very slow-moving system. today they're out of the southeast, showing you this storm is in fact moving out of the southwest right

doug, thank you very much. don, likewise. we have been telling you about the breaking news coming in to cnbc. apple stock much higher after winning a massive patent infringement lawsuit against samsung. cnbc's jon fortt was in the courtroom in san jose as the verdict was brought, read and so forth. let's go to jon. good evening. what can you tell us? >> good evening, larry. it's not a total victory for apple. but it is close. the jury says apple is due more than a billion dollars in damages for multiple violations where samsung copied apple's designs of hardware and software. there are some exceptions. the jury found that the ipad design is not completely protectable by apple legally. but in phones, across much of samsung's line of phones as of just a year ago, violations have been found and this is on the higher end in terms of damages that have ever been awarded in history. this will be appealed. samsung was already talking about getting their papers ready to get filed on appeal. we saw it with oracle sap a few months ago.
