meteorologist kari hall, how much of a break are we going to get? >> we're going to catch a break as we go into tonight and into the day tomorrow. take a look at how much we had over the weekend. over 11 inches of rain at the summit. and san mateo had 9.5 inch of rain. guerneville had close to 9 inches and mt. tam was close to 7 inches, orinda 6.25 and four inches in napa and richmond. pacifica 3 inches there and also in san jose. san francisco had 2 inches downtown. this system is finally starting to wrap up and it still is bringing scattered rain and maybe just enough just to add some additional into that rainfall totals that we've seen so far. it's raining in san francisco, it's clearing out in oakland and we are seeing that rain moving through fremont, over toward livermore and approaching san jose. so we're not in the clear yet. we may have some additional rainfall at least into early afternoon. i'll talk more about that and we'll talk about that next chance of rain coming up in just a few minutes. >>> people up and down the california shorelin

let's go to meteorologist kari hall. very good news for the drought when you see the biggest reservoir in the state kind of full. >> and the most improvements have been in northern california, where we are seeing not as many of the dark shades of red. now, this bright, dark red does indicate that there is still an exceptional drought there. and that extends for the central valley, over towards the southern sierra, and down to l.a. now, in the bay area, we have seen some major improvements. this time last year, we were in an extreme drought. now, for most of the peninsula into the north bay, we have this shade of yellow which shows we are abnormally dry. and then you head over towards the east bay and over the hills, still a severe drought, but once again, we've made some significant improvements. and we are in a stretch now of some drier weather. looking at the sierra, we also have gone from 9% of the normal snowpack in the sierra to 92% at this point. but there we still have that moderate to severe drought also in that

kari hall joining us now. cold again, like it was yesterday. >> i remember when we went to the giants game, sam. you had that gigantic bratwurst think. >> a kielbasa. those things. >> garlic tfries, that's alwaysa hit. let's take a look at what we're feeling now. another chilly morning. it's 51 degrees in san francisco. and 41 degrees in the east bay as we get a closer look at san francisco now, we're right at about 50, 51, 52. not a wide range. and in the north bay, we have a few more clouds this morning and 41 degrees. so that may keep us from getting some frost. as we go hour-by-hour, we're looking throughout the day in berkeley. a few clouds this morning, and then all of that clears out for some sunshine by 11:00. and into the lower 60s today. we may have some spots hitting the upper 60s and low 70s this afternoon. like los gatos, 71 degrees. 66 in burlingame and the financial district at 61 degrees. so, it will be a touch warmer in a few spots. and of course, we can hold back the windy conditions. and mor

how is it going there, kari? >> reporter: we're going great now that we have first graders here paired up with fifth graders. they're reading to each other, taking turns, passing books along. it's just one book after another. it's all to celebrate dr. seuss' birthday. but i want you to check out this sign they made for me. now, this is pretty awesome. look at that. it looks just like me. that is really nice. these kids welcoming me into the school, i'm going to read a couple of books. of course i have a dr. seuss book and we'll read that after a while. then i also have a book that's related to weather and the water cycle. some learning involved here. of course, we'll talk a little bit about weather. but that's all coming up. if your kids are in school right now, this is probably exactly what they're doing, reading and of course as we go into the weekend we've been talking about it raining so it will be a good weekend to stay inside and just curl up with a good book and keep this tradition going. we're trying to c

a healthy dose of rain over the weekend and good morning, kari. >> good morning. we are starting oout with some drier conditions. a chance to dry out after such a soggy weekend. but those roads are still wet as you head out this morning. now, temperatures in the upper 40s, even to mid-50s for most of the bay area and into this afternoon we're looking at highs around 62 degrees in the north bay. 60 in san francisco and some 6 o0s today. some 70s for the middle of the week. i'll detail that coming up. let's get an update on what is happening at the bay bridge now with mike. >> kari, the bay bridge toll plaza has a few folks waiting to pay the cash. show you the emoryville camera. the silhouettes in san francisco and also see a little shake of the camera and little wind going on and nothing major here. watch the roadways, as well. slicker roadways and little wind catching you across the bridge and you don't see a problem with the speed sensors and entire bay looks all right as far as the speed sensors. i do want to get this. this is a surprise for peninsula drivers s

let's bring in meteorologist kari hall. good morning. >> good morning, scott. we've had some high wind gusts today. here's a live look at the golden gate bridge where we've also had those winds at times up to 45 miles an hour. point reyes up to 46, benicia bridge 44 and half moon bay, a gust of to 37 and it will stay this way into the afternoon. so expect the winds to rush in from the north. sustained at about 25 to 30 with higher gusts. half moon bay up to 35 miles an hour and that creates those choppy wave conditions all along the bay area beaches. into the day we may also have a few spotty showers popping up especially over the hills. i'll detail that and what else to expect as we go through the week. that's coming up a little bit later. >>> just into our newsroom, for the first time the usgs is releasing maps that show the potential ground shaking hazards from human-induced quakes. here it is. you can see oklahoma city and parts of kansas and texas being highlighted there. the usgs says more and more earthquakes are being caused by human activities, like fr
