meteorologist, kari hall, tracking the high temperatures heading your way.his is "today in the bay." >>> thank you for joining us on this thursday morning. marcus washington has the morning off. >> we're happy kris sanchez is here. i am laura garcia. let's check out with our favorite forecast. >> it's going to be hot later today. we have a few hours before we get there and it's a cool start. right now we have temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s, so not bad, right? we are starting out with 47 in san josÉ. the south county commute heading into the south bay and up the peninsula where we are going to see temperatures in the upper 40s for the next hour or so. 58 degrees at 8:00. many more people out the door when we see the sun coming up and the temperatures will already start to ramp up in the upper 70s at noon. our temperatures for this afternoon not expected to set a record, but we will be very close, at least within five degrees for many spots around the bay area. this is the peak of the heat, so we will talk about the weekend coming up. >>> mike, you

meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect today.arm-up. >> not a big warm-up and not nearly as nice as it was yesterday. we had such a beautiful weekend. today we have clouds coming in and those temperatures will only reach into the upper 50s and low 60s today. let's get a live look outside in san francisco. mist and drizzle and our temperatures in napa start out at 50 degrees. we'll see it basically holding steady for the next few hours and slowly making it into the mid to upper 50s for today, reaching 59 in dublin, 62 in san jose, and 59 in san mateo. so make sure you're prepared for that cool weather. and, mike, you have a live look at 280 in san jose. >> yes, it's dividing 880 on your side and 17 on my side. on the map it's right in the middle of the map, and you saw how smoothly traffic was flowing. i did see a good number of headlights, a little more volume than we expect to see at this time of day. i think there may be more traffic this week on many people's commutes, even though a few school districts have this week off. we'

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring it all for us. >> the clouds have rolled in and will kind of hang out with us today. we're also feeling much cooler temperatures thanks to a cold front that has dipped across the state. as we head across the bay to oakland right now, it is a day where we're not going to see a lot of sunshine. maybe a few peeks heading toward 2:00 to 3:00 and then going into the rest of the afternoon but also very windy. and temperatures are holding steady in the mid 50s. that is about what we'll see as we go into the rest of today. so a big change from what we had over the weekend as we only reached 60 in martinez and 59 in novato. san francisco in the upper 50s. we'll see a high of 60 today in mountain view. this is the system coming in, seeing some spotty showers further to the north. not expecting a big, heavy rainfall, but the north bay will have the highest chance of that rain. so we'll take it hour by hour and talk about what to expect as the system comes in and what is ahead for the rest of the week, coming up a little bit later. >> thanks, kari. >>>

meteorologist, kari hall, is tracking that, and also the countdown to the cool down. >>> ahead in a live report, the impact now expected from the string of winter storms on our fire season. this is "today in the bay." >>> thank you for joining us on this thursday morning. marcus washington has the morning off. i am here. i am kris sanchez. >> i am glad kris is here, and i am laura garcia. we are starting off with cloudy conditions, but this is quickly going to change. meteorologist, kari hall, leading our team coverage talking about the hot temperatures we are going to have. how hot are we talking? >> we are going to have a range of high temperatures, and if you are seeing fog and clouds now most likely it will stay in the 70s for you. but if you are making your way inland and it's already clear, it will hit the 90s this afternoon. it's a spare the air day where the most unhealthy air quality will be in the interior east bay. we will see a hazy sky with a high amount of particulate matter in the air. our temperatures hotter than yesterday, but not expected to set a lot of records here. i

let's start with a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. she is tracking this mid-week warm-up. >>> we're starting to see those temperatures heat up for the afternoon, but we're still cool in the morning as you get ready to step out the door. let's head to oakland with a look at your commute to work and it's going to be in the upper 40s and low 50s. and then it's quickly going to start to heat up out there. by noon it's 68 degrees, eventually making it up to 78. and we're going to see some mid-80s for a lot of our warmest spots in the inland valleys. still upper 60s and 70s for the coastline. we'll talk about the peak of the heat. >>> mike, we keep going back to highway 24. >> we actually had a total of three, not just two crashes. no major injuries. traffic flows through the area. there may be activity on the shoulder. that's outside the caldecott tunnel. the arrow shows you it's going toward the bay bridge, the maze. no problems in the commute direction. but the arrows show you the buildup for highway 4, 37, and on the bay bridge. no acti

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring it all for us. look at that.ng. the southern sierra has three times its normal amount of snow for this date, and the central sierra is at 236% of normal. so how much does that measure up? because there are 89 stations up and down the sierra measuring snow at any point. but the central sierra snow lab keeps a lot of accurate records and they're saying that as of today they've had more than 715 inches of snow. that's the second highest they've ever had. the other was the big snowstorm in '51 and '52. there's still light snow coming down this morning, the bay area may see some spotty showers as we get some colder air coming down. we will have a very slight chance of rain, but for the most part it's going to be cool, breezy, and also sunny for much of today. we'll talk about more changes ahead. >>> mike, you're seeing slowing in san jose. >> right on schedule. we predict this every day about this time, we're looking at the slower drive for north 101, the first bit of traffic that eases up and then really kicks in abo

meteorologist kari hall was with me yesterday up there. kari, folks kept coming up to you, saying what's the weather going to be like this weekend? >> i think she gets that everywhere she goes. >> it was pretty amazing yesterday. i don't know if we could have gotten any better weather. it will be warming up over the weekend and i've got a little something for everybody. it's a cool start this morning as we're right now at 50 degrees in hayward, 47 in livermore and 50 in santa rosa. as you're getting ready to go to work in pleasant hill, it's in the low 50s, but you can see the trend that quickly starts to head upward, upper 70s and low 80s today. so significantly warmer compared to yesterday. we'll see more this weekend. we'll talk about that, as well as some events going on around the bay area to help you enjoy the weekend in a few minutes. >> kari, thank you. >>> new this morning, did you feel it? a 3.2 earthquake striking her hollister this morning. this was about 2:15, according to the usgs, people felt it as far as salinas. so far, th

meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring that and the temperatures. t make him mad. >> right? it's been cool. i know we all want warmer weather, and we're going to get that as we get closer to the weekend. we're starting out cool this morning as you head out in pleasant hill and it's in the low 40s right now. we'll be at 60 degrees at 1:00, eventually making it up to the mid-60s there. upper 50s for san francisco and a high of 60 in san mateo. santa rosa will reach 66 degrees and even warmer for tomorrow, some of us hitting the low 70s. we'll talk more about that coming up. >>> mike, you're tracking a crash in the east bay. >> chp did issue an alert because it's the eastshore freeway in your commute direction, left lanes affected by this crash. holding up traffic, coming down through richmond. this is just before the blend with folks coming off of the bridge from san rafael. it's holding up traffic, so the bay bridge shows a lighter backup, even though the metering lights are activated. lighter flow overall throughout the east bay, but slowing on 680.

kari hall, what about the warm-up today? >> a few more degrees.that's the trend all week long, coming up a couple degrees, and each day feeling a little more comfortable. as you are heading out the door in san rafael, most of our temperatures have been in the mid-40s. we also have kids on spring break in a lot of school districts in the bay area. we are checking out livermore, in the upper 40s at 9:00, and upper 50s at noon. you might want to wait until this afternoon before heading out there, because it will be 66 degrees later today. novato reaching 64 degrees. we will talk about rain in tomorrow's forecast coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look at where you can find slightly lower gas prices? >> yeah, i skipped the lowest, because i spoke about them earlier in the week. on redwood highway, 4.19 a gallon. same price point at many areas there. the south bay, cupertino, 4.09. 3.85 in pleasanton. we have a smooth drive, green sensors for the most part. no traffic across the golden gate bridge. things backed up as they cleared the crews and now
