i'm looking at one wave of low pressure to bring ice and snow across northern georgia and south carolina in particular. another strong wave moves in wednesday night into thursday. over the next 48 hours this area to watch, northern louisiana through mississippi, huntsville, birmingham, atlanta, and south carolina and north carolina are some of the heaviest freezing rains that should come down. the reason, big pressure over the northeast. cold pressure funneling down the east coast, we call this a wedge. right up along the appalachians and east of there. this is where the coldest air can get tucked in and tough to get out. colder surface, warmer above it. this is a perfect setup for freezing rain and sleet. this is where we expect the highest impact from the storm. quarter to half inch of ice building up from metro atlanta towards augusta. across much of south carolina and into north carolina. this is the type of setup that could create widespread power outages that could last for days. something along the order of what we saw in philadelphia just a short while ago. then the storm heads u

you can see that even bringing a tail of snow still into northern parts of georgia. you've already got the ice and now the snow this morning. you're thinking boy, this could end anytime. there are numerous areas that got an inch of snow where we had all the trees and power lines down. it will take us a while to recover. durham, north carolina, a quarter inch, so widespread problems. as i said, it is moving up the coast. on the northern side of this, you're getting an onshore flow. the water is just a little warmer, so that gives you a little warm nudge along the coastline. that's why interior where it's just the cold air, it's definitely snow and heavy snow at that in some cases, really coming down. once you get to near the coastline, there's this area mixing in of rain and more freezing precipitation, so we've had ice pellets mix into that d.c. forecast, philadelphia already. we'll see that in new york city before too long as all of this progresses. snow totals are a little more difficult to predict, because it depends on just how much that have is the sleet versus

we are watching storms just blowing across georgia now and in northern areas of florida.ross the upper midwest. the storms have been moving quickly. this morning and through the overnight hours, unorganized but now the line has come together. you can see the indication where we had the heavy rainfall along with a lot of lightning, so strong, gusty winds associated with this line. as it continues to bow out across georgia. we do have thunderstorm warnings in place in south carolina and a small portion of west areas of georgia. this area of yellow indicates that. that will be until 2:00 p.m. local time. still watching for strong storms to erupt. in the north, the risk shifts to virginia and we could see storms around new york city and philadelphia going into the afternoon and evening. after that, things will clear out as that line will continue to push off the east coastline. the main threats, isolated tornadoes, but really overall widespread strong damaging winds. we'll continue to keep a close watch on this. as we go through the day, you can see by this evening, the easte
