temperatures already climbing into the upper 80s for the east bay, the north bay and the south bay nearlyhose 90 degrees out in livermore already. and the city will actually be warming up too. so a pretty rare thing to be talking about 80s in san francisco, but september is usually one of our warmest months in the bay area. we get even hotter from there into 91 in fremont, 99 in concord could get to that triple digit mark, so it will be a very toasty tuesday around the bay area. i've got a lot of things to help you prepare for this heat wave ahead. but mike, you're hearing about a fire along the nimitz. yeah. so concerned. of course, anytime we hear fire, especially with the temperatures we're looking at and maybe some wind kicking in as well. this is a roadside fire, though, along the nimitz didn't see any problem as far as the flow of traffic past high street. that's where it was reported along the nimitz. the speed sensors also show no problems. if i can move the sensors over there for my maps. there we go. right here in this corridor. that's the nimitz right by. you can kind of see th

low 90s around the bay shoreline and mid 90s to upper 90s down in the south bay.ave a heat advisory that will be in effect from 11 a.m. today to 11 p.m. tomorrow. for all areas except those locations right around the bay shoreline and along the coast. and of course, under these elevated heat conditions, there is an increased risk of emergency in rancho palos verdes because of a landslide that's making homes too dangerous to live in. amanda is tracking the latest on this from the live desk. >> yeah. kumasi be ready to evacuate. that's the warning being relayed to homeowners in the city of rancho palos verdes, outside of los angeles. now, a landslide in the city's sea view neighborhood is threatening homes and buckling roads. severe storms and rain over the past two years is said to be the cause of the accelerated land movement. the land beneath some of these homes is sliding at least 9 to 12in per week. power has been shut off to more than 200 homes. residents say they've lost the ability to live normal lives. >> unbelievable. in the last four months, it's constant

well as the south bay. now we're going to see temperatures in san francisco in the mid 60s going into the afternoon. and mike, you have that traffic alert for south bay commuters. yeah, it's going to affect more of the south bay now because we're having that build. we expect typically northbound 101 approaching oakland road sees some slowing just about now. right now the backup is just showing the build as you're approaching the restriction north 101 down to just one lane at story road. a deadly crash happened early this morning. and so they have only the fast lane open until the coroner can arrive and do the investigation. the backup starts back at capital expressway, and that may be where more folks cut over toward 87. and then take that north, joining back up with 101 north of the airport. the reason i'm concerned is, again, we talked about the first slowing. typically happening there. there may be a crash coming into morgan hill out of san martin. north 101 does show the slowing as more folks flood onto

, the inland east bay. these are the areas that will find some of the warmest temperatures today. so this heat advisory will start at 11 a.m. for areas inland. it will continue through tomorrow evening. so it's pretty clear out there. a live look from our sutro tower camera showing you we have mainly clear skies. just some patchy fog along the coast right now in the north bay we have a wide range of temperatures in our valleys. we're in the 40s, so it's chilly, but you go up in the hills and we have temperatures right now in the 70s. so warm air is up above that will slowly descend down to the surface throughout the day and warm us up. so inland. forecast lots of sunshine today. the heat advisory is in effect. these temperatures will go into the low and mid 90s for daytime highs. it will be warm around the bay shoreline. even though today is the first full day of fall. we have temperatures that are more summer like mid and upper 80s around the bay shoreline, lots of sunshine. the immediate coastline will ge

marianne favro, nbc bay area news. also new. this morning, police are investigating a shooting in the east bay that happened around 1030 last night in antioch. one person was shot at the intersection of sycamore drive and pepper tree way. video here from the scene shows multiple bullet holes and shell casings. witnesses tell us there have been several shootings this same week at that same intersection. we do know about one of those shootings. as we reported last week on labor day. one person was shot at that same intersection of sycamore and pepper tree. video from that scene also shows multiple bullet holes and shell casings. the victim in that shooting died at the hospital. antioch police have identified him as 20 year old elijah scales. no word on what led to both shootings. turning now to governor gavin newsom, who has declared a state of emergency in southern california as the lion fire continues to grow. it has burned more than 17,000 acres near the city of highland, which is in san bernardino county. that's about 11mi■!s.

nbc bay area's thom jensen is in bay point. witnesses say it sounded like a drive by shooting, followed by return gunfire. rapid shots fired near the intersection of dasani circle and laura anne court just before 6:00 sunday. what i heard is bang, bang, bang. and then we started running. this man asked that we not share his identity because he's afraid of retaliation. contra costa county sheriff's deputies placed at least 15 evidence markers in the street on dasani circle. normally, indications of where gun shell casings are located total. how many do you think you heard? because the first. i thought it was 20. i mean, i didn't think it was 15. a man who lives about a block away told us in spanish that he heard at least eight shots initially, followed by more muchos gritos como de senoras. he said after the first round of gunfire, he heard people screaming. neighbors say one victim was a baby girl. only a few months old, and that she was grazed by a bullet. but the sheriff's department didn't share information about the victims

as we look at the rest of the east bay, a great drive. north bay is held steady. a pretty smooth but slower drive. gradual slowing from mare island over toward highway 121 and sears point and highway four holds. with that slowing into concord out of baypoint and pittsburg. but no drama over there and easy lighter friday a smooth drive for the rest of the bay. there's a crash near the dublin interchange, but there's no problem with the flow. look at that. westbound through dublin. out of livermore. back to you. all right. thank you so much, mike. 602. and we have breaking news this morning. we can now tell you boeing's labor union is on strike. more than 30,000 machinists walked off the job late last night as the workers rejected a tentative contract, which offered a 25% wage boost over four years. the union says these pay increases are too little, too late and will not help with the rising cost of living. this is the first strike in 16 years, and the last one lasted 57 days and cost the company about $100 million in revenue per day. the race to the white house is

and south bay. past 680. closures have really looked like this. between pleasanton and sunol. but you know what? this weekend's closure will involve a separate part of southbound 680 with a lot more drivers to navigate. so let's check in with today in the bay's bob redell. he's live near that dublin interchange, and caltrans is really trying hard to get the word out about this closure. bob they are. so let's put up a map so you can understand the section of roadway we are talking about. good morning to you, marcus. laura. we're talking about just the southbound direction of 680 between al costa boulevard and the 586 80 interchange. double interchange? it's not too far behind me. that closure starting tonight at 9:00 and running until 4:00 monday morning. this is to give caltrans workers the freedom and time to repave that stretch of roadway without having to worry about traffic zipping by, caltrans tells us they're getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time by shutting down this road, we a

the bay bridge too. it is cool and it is cloudy out there for us, especially in these early morning hours. it will get breezier into the afternoon and a little bit drizzly along our coastline. we can see just a little bit of rain in the forecast offshore as we head into the next 24 hours in areas like half moon bay, stretching over into pacifica. but for the rest of us, it will be a little bit more dry into the afternoon hours and a little bit sunnier for our friends down in the santa clara valley. with 70s in the forecast today, here's that marine layer slowly pulling back exposing us to that sunshine throughout the santa clara valley. and off into the east bay. around 2:00. we'll continue to see more sunshine until around 7:00, as that marine layer starts to fill its way back into the bay. at that time, we're also going to get gustier conditions too. we kicked off this morning nice and mild, but those wind speeds today could get anywhere up to around 25 to 35mph from bodega bay, down into san francisco

bay.ood wednesday morning. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we'll take a look at that morning commute with mike in just a little bit. but kari bringing the sunshine with that yellow today and the heat. right. we're going to have some hot weather for the inland valleys again today. and we are under a heat advisory for much of the bay, with the exception of the immediate coastline and parts of the peninsula. but we are now including san francisco in that heat advisory that continues until tomorrow evening. so the valleys are going to see those highs in the 90s and even triple digits. the bay and the coast will be in the 70s and 80s. and with all of this heat, we will also have a very high fire danger right now. nice and comfortable. much of the bay area in the 50s and 60s. we're down to 55 right now in sonoma and santa rosa. the good thing is that we do have these cool mornings to start, but our highs today will be hot once again, headed to 103 degrees in gilroy this afternoon. c

the north bay. we've got upper 40s to low 50s right now inland, east bay, upper 40s to mid 50s. so it's comfortable now. but later in the day, check out the high temperatures coming our way. we'll see 100 degrees at fairfield, concord and livermore, 99 at antioch, around the bay shoreline, 88 at oakland, 90 at san mateo, 82 will be the high here in san francisco today. and we'll see low to mid 70s on the on the coast. so as we look ahead once again, a reminder spare the air for today and tomorrow with moderate air quality in many locations. but the inland east bay and santa clara valley will have poor air quality. let's get a check on traffic with amanda. yeah. >> good morning. spencer, a sleepy and clear commute here across the bay area, which is the good news. we're going to first take a look at our emeryville cam, showing you the east shore freeway. of course, headlights are headed west. highway four to san francisco. that drive will take you 26 minutes. and the good news is, as you make your way

north bay and the south bay and our peninsula and the city remaining pretty warm. we'll look for san francisco, some cooling by the end of the week with the return of that sea breeze, but temperatures still very mild in the low 70s upper 60s through the weekend. and for our inland valleys, it will be hot over the next couple of days. please take those walks early and towards the weekend, making those plans. wear those hats and the sunscreen. mike has bay bridge recovered. we are not without backup and that would not be the case for the morning. but there were two crashes, one near the toll plaza, which i believe cleared the backup. now back to standard form. what you can expect a smooth drive off to the far section of the 880 overcrossing as you get to that second area toll plaza and the speed sensors improve a bit approaching the area of treasure island, i saw some flashing lights there. the lighting is now tough for me to see if there's any other crews on scene, but there's no update from the injuries from the earlier crash near treasure island. a little bit of e

, east bay and the south bay. so we're going to continue to watch this and a significant cooldown for tomorrow. more on that in a few minutes. mike, you've been tracking activity near the bay bridge. yeah, we had some activity with a crash that had to be cleared at the berkeley curve. looks like everything got to the bay bridge toll plaza, the east parking lot without issue. no slowing on that side of the bay. getting into san francisco. westbound 80. the bay bridge will find some slowing just as you're approaching ninth and fifth. getting down through the central freeway. remember we talked about overnight work that may be there until close to six, but i think it will clear over the next half hour as we're looking in towards san francisco, with the lane restrictions getting toward the 101 interstate 80 interchange there. meanwhile, the rest of the bay does show a nice easy start, including the altamont pass. no major issues, but your typical slowing coming into livermore clearing. by the time you get to grant lin

no matter if you're in the east bay and the south bay or the north bay, our temperatures are going to be pretty similar to what we had yesterday. mid to upper 80s and through parts of livermore, santa rosa, and down into morgan hill. we'll do a high of 81 in downtown san jose. we'll see some more microclimates of course, as we get on into the east bay shoreline, some mid to upper seconds and some 64 degrees for a beach day in half moon bay. this could be the last beach day for a while. look at how temperatures drop into tomorrow. those of you that wanted sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes and all of the warm, cozy fall stuff. tomorrow is your day. and even on into monday, 60s and 70s for our daytime highs as we track a major pattern here in the forecast for our sunday morning, we'll start off with some patchy clouds clear up for just a little bit before more of that cloud cover starts to settle in into the afternoon. you're also going to feel the wind pick up, so if you have any outdoor furniture, maybe later on today will be the day to bring it on in as we track a system that c

the inner bay. so you're going to see those temperatures cranking up today, but also it will look hazy outside as our air quality turns moderate, which we do typically see on these hotter days. the air isn't mixing out as much. we don't have as much of a breeze, and all of those pollutants make our air quality a little bit more unhealthy and will be moderate for today. so as we take a look at what to expect, our temperatures go from mid 50s in the morning here into the low 80s, so even the city will be warming up with a high of 84 degrees in the north bay. it's going to be in the mid 90s this afternoon, 96 in moraga, concord, 99 degrees and 92 in san jose. tomorrow in some spots it's about the same, while other areas get some slight relief. we'll see that in the peninsula as well as the south bay, with san jose's high going from low 90s to upper 80s. so we're making some progress. and in san francisco and along the coast on wednesday, it is much cooler as we see those highs drop back to the upper 60

bay. a person has died after their car went over a cliff, crashing below. it happened off of mount hamilton yesterday afternoon near state route 130 and kincade road. the vehicle reportedly fell more than 100 yards from the roadway. cal fire and chp were involved in the recovery operation. no word yet on what led up to the crash. well, happening now, hundreds of hotel workers in san francisco are now on strike. and this all comes after a contract expired in august. the hospitality workers are part of the unite here local two. they include housekeepers and servers. so union members are seeking a new contract with hyatt, hilton and marriott hotel chains. those workers were on the picket line at three hotels around union square yesterday. we have, you know, our our wages is one of our key issues. many of our members commute from far away. the cost of living has gone up exponentially in the past couple of years. and so big wage increases are really important for us maintaining our medical bene

south bay by six. livermore in the east. bay by six. 64 degrees.n livermore, closer to the water 65. in oakland, 61 sfo in the north bay. a few areas in the mid to upper 50s, but all in all we have a very mild start. half moon bay reporting 52 with some patchy fog along the coast. head to the east bay 60 degrees at alamo 62 walnut creek. the inner east bay is where we have the heat advisory for one more day. the inner east bay, our valleys and our hills lasting until 8:00. temperatures are expected to be in the mid 90s to near 100 degrees, with that compressed marine layer out there, very shallow down to about 4 to 600ft or so for today. so no benefit from the marine layer and the onshore breeze. not with us either. it's very localized just along the coast, 95 degrees expected today in santa rosa will go 99. in livermore, 92 over san jose. a better look at some of these numbers on the peninsula for today. a toasty one in redwood city 90 degrees. but really the inner east bay going to be baking 98 in antioch, 98 in concord. temperatures do begin to

into the east bay. mike, you're tracking the changes at the bay bridge. yeah. one of those changes, predictable is the lanes are filling in. just started about 7 or 8 minutes ago, and already we're seeing about mid parking lot for most of these middle lanes approaching. that indicates the volume slowing on the incline all the way back from the metering lights. and that's what we see on the sensors as well. little taps of brake over there down the east shore freeway as well. also in that bay bridge shot we saw some low clouds blowing through. so keep that in mind. that may mean some wet roadways through some of your drives today over there. the golden gate bridge, south 101 shows a little bit of slowing. it's recovering. i believe they cleared that crew heading down towards spencer. over here. this is not clear. ginger just talked about it. dreamforce continues at the moscone center. watch. howard. it's blocked off between third and fourth. third had closures yesterday. fourth and fifth have both way bot
