northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg joining us from the scene of the morning's standoff. jeff? jeff: jonathan, neighbors tell us there was a great deal of commotion for many hours earlier this morning. as the police surrounded a home in the town home development. they were pleading and trying to have him put down the weapon. but he shot and killed himself. this is 39-year-old david abbott, a detective with the rahm emanuel police -- detectivh the manassas police department. they were trying to issue search warrants yesterday. he was wanted for crimes involving inappropriate communication with a 13-year-old boy who he met coaches for a local youth hockey league. the relationship started when

jeff goldberg is live. what is going on out there? jeff: i want to tell you where we are standing. e street and second in northwest washington. overlooking 395 north, just by massachusetts a. you can see a dramatic police presence between the metropolitan police department, arlington police as well. traffic diverted off 395 going to massachusetts avenue. here is what happened. this is 3:00 today. report of a shot fired at the pentagon city mall parking lot. arlington police responded. notice the vehicle that fit the description that came in for the call. a chase ensued. the vehicle with the suspect inside crossed over the bridge, 14th street bridge into washington. at some point got off 395, perhaps on independent avenue -- independence avenue. got back on 395 where the chase ended here. two suspects got out of the vehicle. they were apprehended wile trying to get away on foot. we are told at some point in northwest washington here a firearm was thrown out of the

northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg joining us live to explain why that is it. jeff? jeff: we are hearing mixed reactions to this plan. at this time of day you can see the traffic build up on 66. it's a real nightmare. the virginia transportation leaders have a plan to reduce the pain on the roads. this morning in a unanimous vote in alexandria the commonwealth transportation board agreeing to move forward with a plan to add tolling on i-66 inside the beltway. it will have solo drivers paying to use the h.o.v. lane similar somewhat to the hot lanes on 495, 395 and i-95. vehicles with two or more drivers will still be allowed to use the lanes for free. the price of the toll will depend on the traffic volume but it is expected to be in the average of $5 to $7. transportation officials say the move could open the door for widening 66 as well at some point in the future.

jeff goldberg was in court when he was sentenced today. jeff: robert wilson ii was stoic today in court as a judge sentenced him to 18 months in prison. in april, police arrested wilson for a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl at the middle school in silver spring. wilson taught at the school and got to know the girl in an after school math club. for the next six months they would meet in the stairwell where wilson would kiss and inappropriately touch the girl. today in court, the public defender blamed the client's action on alcohol and marijuana addiction according to the court records was so severe wilson was nearly at a constant state of intoxication. prosecutors say because of the abuse the teenage victim suffers from a loss of appetite, sleepless nights and a moodies order. following the sentencing wilson's family left court quite upset. the judge saw things differently. saying no prison time would send wrong message. robert wilson iii sentenced to 18 months in prison. in rockville, i'm kevin lewis. jonathan: the university o

jeff goldberg has the latest on this awful discovery. jeff? reporter: it certainly is. it has been an active scene for the metropolitan police department. investigators have been here for hours friday 18th and columbia. they have been outside that are all afternoon. and shifting to madam's organ. investigators have inside all afternoon. it was in the alley behind that are that this body was discovered earlier today. pd arriving at about 12:30 this afternoon found the men dead. this is just next to a construction project in the alley. friends say a student named paul mcguinness went missing in this area late tuesday night, early wednesday morning. metropolitan police have not confirm the identity of the man found dead here today. investigators have also not said whether foul play was involved or anything about the cause of death. >> when the officers got the call and they arrived on the scene, the individual was deceased. >> my heart goes out to the family. i am sorry that this happened and i hope it is not happen to anybody else. reporter: that family friend of paul mcg

until then live in sterling, jeff goldberg, abc7 news. leon: thank you, jeff. new information today on a deadly stabbing on a prince george's county playground. you saw the story first last night on "abc7 news at 4:00". now police tell us they have made an arrest in that case at gaywood elementary school. suzanne kennedy is live in seabrook with the latest. suzanne: last night the area i'm standing in was a crime zone. now authorities know who was responsible for stabbing the man who was sitting on that bench right there. prince george's county police arrested and charged 31-year-old alex jones with first and second-degree murder. they say jones stabbed 24-year-old douglas reyes around 3:45 monday afternoon. reyes' family say he is mentally disabled and has been since he was involved in a car accident when he was 5 years old. they can't imagine why someone would hurt him. >> i can't understand why somebody would do that. he was not a bad kid. he was a really good kid. i still can't understand why he would do something like that. my brother was harmless. he brou

for now, live in rosslyn, jeff goldberg. jonathan: thank you. holiday house party turn deadly after a confrontation between the host and one of his guests. now police are trying to figure out what would force that man to shoot the other man. montgomery county reporter kevin lewis is joining us from manassas with the latest on the investigation. where do we stand with this, kevin? kevin: jonathan, a man by the name of francisco trujillo is the murder suspect. he lives in this red brick home with his wife and two young sons. yesterday the family was hosting a party inside of their home. all was well until after midnight when he got in an argument with a male guest he felt was drunk and threatening his family. the two men who were intoxicated began to argue near a christmas tree. that is when trujillo grabbed a gun and fired one shot hitting the invited guest in the chest. by the time police arrived the 40-year-old man was dead. his girlfriend by his side in hysteric. trujillo was in another room reportedly acting calm. he apologized to officers fo

jeff goldberg has new information and the strong reaction from the boy's father. reporter: following his death last may vienna police were looking at one possible suspect. a man from tennessee with a history of serious and violent crimes. a new report is sure to put the focus back on kenny bartley. >> ♪ happy birthday to you ♪ reporter: his third birthday was full of smiles and laughs. last may beckett died at his home in vienna. an autopsy determined the cause of death as blunt head trauma with the manner of death undetermined. a recent letter from fairfax county child protective services to beckett's father in tennessee explains an investigation determined back it was physically abused by an unknown abuser. at the time of his death he was in the care of kenny partly, a tennessee man convicted of shooting and killing an administrator at his high school in 2005 as well as other crimes including domestic abuse. he was questioned by vienna police after beckett's death but never charged. he was living in virginia in the care of his psychologist beckett's mother. afte
