ktvu's david stevenson talked to representatives. she live from -- he is live from san francisco. >> reporter: organizers expected 200 people for this. we are seeing half that number here. the people include bart workers but it is also a number of union members from other industries. this caps the first day of a bart strike that sent 400,000 in search of alternative transportation. they are still far apart on issues. we have seen positive and negative reaction from observers here. here you can see them chanting. bart workers are prepared to be out here for as long as it takes to get what they want. >> i am hoping that we could get bart management to meet with us and talk and come to negotiate. we have been there several times. nothing has been done today. we will be back here tomorrow. >> reporter: oakland city workers were expected to join bart workers but we are hearing they had a lot of trouble making their way to san francisco from the east bay. people expect to be out here till 6:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. and continue to march to drum u

ktvu's eric rasmussen has been monitoring the demonstrations.ests on thers are on the move -- are on the move, what is going on? >> reporter: they are, ken. we are at 11th and 14th. a look at the crowd as they continue making their way through downtown oakland. this has been going on for 30 minutes now. we have not seen any issues like last night. this crowd is significantly larger and we are guessing in the neighborhood of 300 or so from talking to people. police have been keeping watch as the crowd goes along as they into march through the streets, some of the chants we heard is that the people decided that george zimmerman was guilty despite what a jury ruled last night. again this is the second day of protests after this verdict has come down. we are monitoring the march as it continues through here. there were issues of vandalism last night. at least from our advantage point. haven't seen any of that so far today. at the rally earlier, they will be out again tomorrow. one of the vows is to shut down business as usual in oakland. we are moni

ktvu's claudine wong is live there with a look at the work and the wreckage. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon, yes, what is left of flight 214 could sit her for another week or 2. the nts interest has taken what it needs so all that is left is for the airline to figure out how to dispose of it. the front part is still impact, the engines and what is left and the tail sitting off to the side, we now know that tail broke off when it hit the sea wall last saturday. getting it to this point was no easy task but this move was critical to getting flights here back on time. a steady caravan of trucks made their way on to runway 28 left this morning laying an estimated 1000 tons of asphalt, just part of what needs to be done. >> we got a lot of work to do, we need to address the spilled jet fluid and hydraulic fluid and those things and they need to repair that. >> just before then we watched a caravan of lights make their way down, escorting the wreckage off the runway but crews didn't know if things would go smoothly and in fact firefighters had to jump i

ktvu's eric rasmussen is live. one of the places that is seeing a spike in burglaries to explain what happened here. >> reporter: it is no secret this shop has surveillance cameras but the man accused of breaking in had no idea his every movement was captured on a live feed. >> reporter: this man may have thought he was all alone when he broke in friday night. but someone was already watching. cameras caught the burglar turning on the lights, looking for car keys and later backing a car out of the garage. but he didn't know the owner received a call at home from his alarm company. the business owner was able to access a live feed of his surveillance cameras and saw the suspend inside his business and call -- suspect inside his business and called police. >> took time to get him out. >> reporter: they found him hiding. they arrested him. the business owner who didn't want to go on camera is grateful to police but they couldn't have done without his help. >> what we have been promoting. >> reporter: mese say this was

ktvu's alex savidge was the first reporter on scene. i understand the police presence continues to grow. >> reporter: it does. this all began when a man called 911 earlier this morning to say he had been shot. he told police the man who shot him was inside of a home here on bryant street just up the block right here on 22nd street. police are still out there. they've surrounded this home. i want to show you some of the action that took place as s.w.a.t. officers came in. two men were detained. police at this point aren't telling us exactly what their involvement may have been. we did see earlier this morning at least ten people were brought out of the house and searched. none of them were taken into custody. the original shooting that led to the standoff was at 4:30 this morning. that's when police say a man was hit by gunfire. we saw as he was taken away by paramedics. he was taken away and treated at the hospital and is expected to survive. the motive remains unclear. but as we bring you out here to a live picture, more police officer

ken wayne, ktvu, channel 2 news. >>> breaking news coverage continues with ktvu's amber lee. she's been following the protesters this evening and brings us up to the minute on where they are now. >> reporter: we're at 12th and oak street, right buy the fallen street courthouse. you can see some of the protesters gathered there. we're told a line of police officers are keeping the crowd from getting onto the steps of the courthouse. we've been following these protesters, as it started getting dark. just about an hour ago, we saw about 400 protesters march from lake merritt, to the 520 on ramp. a line of police officers also in riot gear stopped them from getting onto 580. many are taking to the streets to call attention to what they say is injustice. >> we're out here for justice, that's it. >> we want to focus on what's happened. i don't blame everybody what they're doing. >> reporter: some protesters confronted drivers trying to get through the intersection, but the crowd dispursed from the onramp, after staying there about 20 minutes. back here live, you can see that some o
