liz? if. liz: when i used to do local news in ohio, i would say, good evening, the missiles are headed our way, but first the farm report. [laughter] guys, we're all here, we're alive and kicking. good to see you, charles. markets are on high alert ahead of microsoft earnings out after the bell. flat to slightly lower, but even so the dow jones are moving higher by 142 points. the dow has crossed the unchanged line 89 times before turning positive after 1 p.m. eastern. and look at the s&p, it just flipped back into positive territory. it's kind of been in and out there. we've got the s&p up 2.7 points, the nasdaq down 12, and let's call the russell flat as a pancake. while equities are having a lot of indecision here, bond yields are decidedly down for the first time in four days, particularly the -- 10-year. we're at 3.46% at the moment, and if we can flip it over to the 2-year yield which is, obviously, much more sensitive to, you know, federal reserve policy, that one's at 3.8, down 3.8

liz: okay. good, good stuff, charles. happy monday, everybody, as we kick off the final hour of trade, layoffs, activists and chips are the three keys opening the door for the bulls. but right now we're losing a little bit of steam. the dow high was a gain of 407 points. we're still up 161, but definitely retrenching a little bit. s&p up by 35, the nasdaq high at one point was a gain of 265 points, right now it's up 177. and the russell 2000 up lee-quarters of a percent or 13 pointings. let's start with the bag of chips. mega gains for amd, western digital. look at those two jumping more than 7% apiece. qualcomm, nvidia, all moving higher on semis, a nice gain of 6.5% after barclays blurted out this morning we kind of wish the valuations on some of these semiconductor stocks were a cheaper, they just endured the worst correction since the tech bubble of the late '90s, so it's time to buy back in. barclays did downgrade klac and amat to underweight, but klac moving higher, and we've got applied m

liz: yeah. the trading action with the december jobs report came out this morning. i'm interested to hear what happened. do i say the floor of the cme? i know you still have some live traders there, but what kind of trades did you start to see really move? >> well, obviously, the equity markets, liz, as you know. we have the largest equities futures fran chielz in the world, and with the s&p 500, nasdaq and the dow futures along with the russell, these are products that moved precipitously quick as the market started to move. in the premarket they were up significantly, and then they sold off a little bit as the markets first opened up. and then i think as people started to digest the wage growth being a little bit less than people anticipated even though it was a small amount, it gave the markets courage to go back up. that's what we saw originally. liz: yeah. i would think, listen, the last couple of months we've been living and dying by the cme fed watch tool. [laughter] the fed funds futures

liz: about to. we should take that banner down actually because something tells me it'll turn green. >> yeah, i think it'll end up going green because the reaction is an overreaction by a bunch of traders that stamp their feet and didn't hear what they wanted but if you're a long term investor, it was a great opportunity to pick up microsoft on the cheap, and i think that'll be true for some of these other names like continue ibm coming out after the bell. i own ibm and like them and big on them. i want to see what they have to say about their cloud business, they're in that -- we heard what microsoft said yesterday and see what ibm says tonight. i want to listen to what their forward guidance is and i fully expect that ibm is not going to disappoint but, look, it's anybody's game at the moment. liz: ibm consulting and software business, it's a big part of their business and it's that high, high nut, you know, that's the one that makes a lot of the money here so we'll be watching it very closely thi

liz: welcome back.is a live look from our abc7 roof camera looking at the embarcadero. look how foggy it is. not a lot of visibility and san francisco. the san francisco 49ers got quite the sendoff yesterday for the nfc championship game against the philadelphia eagles. fans lined the back lot of the team's practice facility in santa clara to get a glimpse of their favorite stars. this is the team's third appearance in the nfc championship game in four years. while philadelphia is known as the city of brotherly love, the 49ers faithful are expecting a hostile environment on sunday. eagles fans pretty intense, but so are niners. new developments, two cities in marin county are facing losses over plans to add more housing. californians for homeownership assuming novato an belvedere for violating state laws. the suits claim each city did not complete the required 90 day review period and wants the plans invalidated. if the lawsuit is successful, the plans would be put on hold until the state does a review.
