jack:/ stephanie: northern and central iowa late tonight into tuesday night. we had a mild, dry day in central iowa, but that is all about to change. look for mostly cloudy skies and a few light rain showers possible for central and southern iowa this evening, but traveling should not be affected for caucus- goers. nw iowa may see some snow showers later tonight after 10 pm, but the metro should not see any snow until well after midnight. it looks like our best chance for snow in the metro will be from 3 am to about 9 am tuesday. this is when we could have some heavy, wet snow falling with several inches accumulating very quickly. because our temperatures will be above freezing during this event, i think we are looking at 3-6" possible in polk county with higher amounts north and west of here and lower amounts south and east. in fact, se iowa will mainly see just rain in the morning and then some afternoon sun tuesday with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. meanwhile, the worst of this storm will impact northwestern iowa where a blizzard warning is posted. s
