peggy bunker is on 87. i drove around on my way to work. not everybody was as lucky as me. >> reporter: that is exactly right, scott. this morning it was really dark. you couldn't see how deep this puddle s. we're going to call this lake 87. i'm going to take the authority and name this lake 87. as you can see take a look at how keep this is. this is about as deep as i can walk. what happened is they closed off a lot of 87, in fact, several lanes, only one lane is getting by on theshoulder. i saw emergency vehicles trying to repair some of the drainage on the side of the road and get rid of this lake and open it up. the only good thing for this situation is it's a reverse commute. people trying to get in going north. earlier this morning around 5:00 in the morning when we found two young women on the way home from somewhere, drove right into this ponding here on 87 south. you can see they found themselves in dire circumstances quickly. they stayed with their car. and waited for a cab to come pick them up. later on we saw a tow truck come, t

let's go to peggy bunker live on the bay bridge. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. eastern span it was the largest public works project in california history, cost $6.4 billion. it's beautiful but here's the problem. it's leaking. a stunning bridge, we took a drive across it. the fog was rolling across that famous span. it was beautiful but right now with all of the issues since opening in september it's really making matters worse now that we find out that it's actually leaking. water was found in an area that is supposed to be water tight after the rainstorms. and the leaks could be from some bolts put into some of the steal guardrails, others say it could be a caulking issue that is not water tight. caltrans says they are confident that the problem is manageable and engineers are inspecting where the water could be coming from. this is suppose to be a 150-year-old bridge. that's how long it's supposed to last but the leaks could lead to corrosion and significantly shorten that life span. they think the problem is manageable. they are expecting exactly where the s

let's start with peggy bunker live in the studio. rain is on the way but people in the south bay will soon be asked to cut back in water use. >> that's right. you know, back in january governor brown announced the drought emergency, he asked californians to reduce water consumption by 20%. the largest drinking water provider is saying we need to up our conservation to 20% as well. that's the water district. they asked us to cut back 10% last month. with the drought worsening the board will meet to discuss requesting a voluntary 20% reduction in water use. that is the highest in 22 years. when you are cuonsider we each use 192 gallons a day that means cutting back 40 gallons per day. how do you do it? many of us have grown up with these ideas and it's something we're used to but if not this is a great way to shave off totals including turning off the water when you brush your teeth or shaving, that saves 10 gallons per person per day. fix the leaky toilets, that's water you're not going to miss. it's draining out all day. wash only fu
